A Cocktail & Conversation -- Thankfulness!

Every other Thursday here at the Broke & The Bookish is A Cocktail & Conversation time. We'll pose a question to 2-3 members of TB&TB crew about books, life, music, etc and then they'll answer and we can converse about it. So grab a cocktail & cozy up for some conversation. It's 5 o'clock somewhere, friends.

This week: With Thanksgiving coming up next week, what are you thankful for right now?

Jana says: Right now, I'm really thankful for my mom. Lots of crazy stuff has happened over the past year. We both had surgery, and took care of each other when we needed to. We went on a 6 week trip, gallivanting all over Europe having an amazing time eating, shopping, and trekking through art museums. And when I got a new job and started freaking out about having to be a grown-up, she sat there with me while I cried through my quarter-life crisis. I still don't really know where I'm headed, but my mom will always be along for the ride and I'm really thankful for that!

Jamie says: I'll be honest...I've been having a hard time being thankful for ANYTHING this year. Yeah, it's been that kind of a year. BUT I'm super thankful for family right now. Especially my husband! We've been married all but 3 months and we've both lost our jobs within that time frame. It's super stressful and I'm so thankful I have him to navigate this hard time with me. Also super thankful for my sister who has become my best friend and gave me the greatest gift this year -- my niece! I'm also thankful that my family members are healthy right now. Will and I have had great loss in recent years ( my mom, his dad, his grandfather) and I'm just thankful that everyone is in pretty good health.

What are you all thankful for right now??

  1. At the moment, I'm thankful for the fact that I get to live, work and play in New York City with some of my best friends in the entire world! I'm grateful for my fiance, for the fact that my family and his family are all eager for our wedding next year and helping us plan. I'm thankful for my church and my friends too!

    <3 you both loads!

  2. This is such a beautiful post. I love seeing new sides on people. At the moment I am thankful for having an awesome family, so many really good friends - in person and online with all of you guys. I'm also thankful for the two little babies that were born by two of my very close friends this year and that I can be such a huge part in both of their lives. Also, I am thankful for being able to do things I love even though it would be awesome if I could finish my studies soon and start working but right now I enjoy every second. Last but not least I also have to mention my mum. Like Jana's mine is super awesome - alwayxs there for me and my best friend. And I'm also thankful that I had the chance to meet so many super sweet and lovely blogger girls this year - I do so hope that one day I'll be able to come to the states again and meet you all. :)

  3. Jamie, I'm with you. It's been rough being thankful this year; even the positive things that have happened have been really difficult and emotionally charged. The grinchy part of me is thankful that there are only 6 weeks left of this god-forsaken year, but that's not really being truly thankful, so let me try this:

I am thankful to have moved into an internet community of book bloggers who are supportive and wonderful and hilarious. I am thankful to be able to afford my (not very) rock-and-roll lifestyle and I hope my little company can keep it up. I am thankful - SO thankful - for my mom and my friends, who have quite literally kept me alive this year through a mixture of threats, booze, tears, and above all, love. And I'm thankful that even this pitiful little list exists, because it - and I - very nearly didn't.

Thank you for the reminder, ladies. It's important and I appreciate it.

  4. Jana, I think you trip to Europe sounds so fun! I have always wanted to tour all over Europe, especially Ireland, England, and Italy. Jamie, I'm so sorry that you are having a rough year. I hope the new year brings new, better jobs for you and your husband. Keep your head up...sometimes God takes us out of something, just to bring us something even better!

  5. I feel you Jana on the new job, and having to be an adult! Honestly I'm thankful for my new job, but still learning to cope with it. Being gone from my home 10 1/2 hours a day is tough. I'm definitely thankful every time a new paycheck comes in though! So there's that :).

  6. Jana I am right along with you. With the recent loss of my boyfriend's mother, I find myself thanking God everyday that I can still call her just to cry or just to beg her to just listen to me. And your trip to Europe sounds awesome by the way!

Jamie, I am so sorry that you are having a rough year, but things will get better. It seems that it already started with the birth of your niece. Just continue to be on the look out for bigger and better jobs for you and your husband. Something great and amazing is in store for you guys. And congrats on the marriage!
