A Cocktail & Conversation -- Books Read In A Single Sitting

Every other week here at the Broke & The Bookish is A Cocktail & Conversation time. We'll pose a question to 2-3 members of TB&TB crew about books, life, music, etc and then they'll answer and we can converse about it. So grab a cocktail & cozy up for some conversation. It's 5 o'clock somewhere, friends.

Question: What's the last book you read in a single sitting or day?

Bridget says: I don't think I've read a book in a single sitting since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but I read Divergent and Insurgent by Veronica Roth in two settings each, probably each within twelve hours. But since real life has caught up with me these days, it's been taking me quite a lot longer to read books than it used to!

Daisy says: This might be cheating slightly as it was during Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon, but the last book I read in a single sitting was Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi! I'm sure that even if it hadn't been a readathon, I would still not have been able to put it down other than for a few necessary breaks. Before that, the last one was The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson. Both were mindblowingly amazing! I try to read books I've been highly anticipating either on the weekends or on my day off because I know I have a hard time NOT reading most of them in one sitting.

Jana says: I read Ten by Gretchen McNeil in one day, just because the book scared me so much that I needed to see things resolved before I went to bed! I did really enjoy it, though, and it was so nice having the flexibility to be able to do this that day. I usually don't have the time!

Kelly says: I recently read Wither by Lauren DeStefano in a four hour sitting one Sunday morning. I can usually get through YA books much faster than any other kind of book and this one was obviously no exception! The plot  and expectations of what to come were really what kept me engrossed. I can't wait to read the sequel!

What was the last book YOU read in one day?

  1. While we were without internet & cable this week because of Sandy, I read The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater all in one day. I couldn't believe it because it's a little bit chunky but I had no other distractions so c'est la vie! :)

Kelly-- I can totally see how any Lauren DeStefano book is read in one day! SO GOOD. I cannot wait for Sever!

Jana -- Ten was DEFINITELY a very fast read for me too!

  2. I read the Hunger Games trilogy in one weekend in July (started Saturday afternoon and finished the 3rd book on Monday evening - it was a long weekend!). Before that, it was probably Room by Emma Donoghue - I couldn't put it down and stayed up past my bedtime to finish. It was after midnight when I finished, so it doesn't quite count as one day, but it was definitely one sitting!

  3. Gone Girl by Gillian Fylnn - she kept me guessing!

  4. I'm not positive, but I think it was pretty close on The Raven Boys and Shatter Me. Great books! My life is too crazy for a true 24hourreadathon anymore! :(

  5. As of late, I pretty much finish a book a day when I read. If I happen to start that book when I get to school in the morning, by the time I get home I'll porbbaly have more than half done so before I go to sleep that night, I'll definitely be done. I started an finished Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas yesterday :D Today I started Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas and I hope to finish it before I sleep ;D
