A Cocktail & Conversation: Resolutions of the Non-Bookish Variety

Every other Thursday here at the Broke & The Bookish is  A Cocktail & Conversation time. One of the TBTB members will pose a question to 2-3 of the other members of TB&TB crew about books, life, music, etc and then they'll answer and we can converse about it. So grab a cocktail & cozy up for some conversation. It's 5 o'clock somewhere, friends.

We have an upcoming Top Ten Tuesday topic dealing with our bookish resolutions for 2014 but what resolutions are you making for yourself in the new year that are of the NON-bookish variety?

Paula says: Every year I challenge myself to read a certain number of books... this year I want to challenge myself to make a certain number of sewing projects. I work at a fabric company and so I have endless ideas and fabric all around me. I am an intermediate sewer and would really like to feel confident in my sewing projects and skills. If only I could sew and read at the same time!

Lori says:  So many things!  I really want to work harder at developing a workout routine.  I definitely want to start doing yoga regularly because it helps me do better in most parts of my life (mood, eating habits, fitness).  I want to start some sort of cardio, probably running, or maybe just six days of yoga--I don't know.  I also want to work on eating at home more often instead of just grabbing something because I love to cook.  Lastly, I want to do better at curbing the instant gratification spending--just because I see something doesn't mean I need to buy it immediately.  There is a reward in waiting.

Jamie says:  I started working out and doing Pilates in 2013 and I'd like to continue that but I'd also like to start running in 2014. My husband ran a half marathon for the first time this year and, while I don't want to do that, I tried a 5K on Thanksgiving and I was so embarrassed at how out of shape I was. I'd like to run with some sort of goal to run a race. Another one of my resolutions is to introduce a new project of mine to the general population. I've been sitting on it for a year or so and I think I need to make it public so I won't procrastinate any longer.

What about you guys? What other resolutions do you have for yourselves?

  1. Jamie, I have the same goal. I started training for a 5k last year and was so ashamed of how hard running just 1 mile is for me. But, I started out at 16 minute mile and quickly got it down to 12... now to just add the second one.

  2. I want to try one new recipe every week, and actually photograph the process so that I can share the recipes on my blog! It's a big goal for me since I get really stuck in eating the same things over and over again..

I also want to keep branching out in my workout routine, and possibly sign up for a full series of aerial silks, since I loved the sampler workshop I took this month. And I want to write a list of places/things/ideas/people that I want to photograph, and actually work on checking things off the list instead of forgetting about it after the first month.

(I think it's funny how many people have running as one of their resolutions - I ran a 10K on a dare last year without having trained for it, finished in 1h19m, and decided that running's not exciting enough for me. Aerial arts ftw!;)

  3. I agree on the yoga! I keep saying I'm going to do it, but I never do. I really need and want to. Running is SOOO not in my realm of something I'm even interested in, but I'm very interested in walking. I just wish I could read at the same time. Except I can't! :( I find myself walking along and all of a sudden I realize I have NO idea what the hell they've been talking about for quite sometime because my head is so busy rambling on and on about something else instead of concentrating on the book I'm supposed to be listening to! Grrr! Oh well.
I also want to get a few scrapbooks done so my crafting area looks less like a hoarders extravaganza and more like a neat and tidy work area again. Plus, my girls would really like to actually be able to look at baby pix of themselves. :/

  4. I want to do a RAOK (Random Act of Kindness) at least once a month for the whole year. I picked the 14th of every month since it is 2014. I declare this the year of loving others!

  5. Great post :)
My personal goals for 2014 consist of losing a few pounds, getting stuff lined up for going back to school, and getting my blogging life organized a little more.

  6. I never make New Years Resolutions but I always make some plans at the beginning of the year about the books I am going to read. So, I posted all the challenges I signed up for
    here.
