With Our Last $20 is a feature here at The Broke & The Bookish wherein we answer the prompt of which book we'd purchase with the last $20 left in our pocket for each month -- be it new releases or older books...basically which ever book we'd be so excited to read that we'd be willing to spend the last $20 in our pockets on. I mean, we are The Broke and the Bookish after all. We'd no doubt live up to our name and forgo other things for a new book!
Jamie's Pick:
Champion by Marie Lu: EASILY this one. I would happily hand over my last $20 this month to find out what happens in this series! If you haven't checked out this series and like fast paced dystopians, do it!
Jana's Pick:
The Princess in the Opal Mask by Jenny Lundquist: I have not heard a ton about this book, but I am really in the mood for fantasy these days. And there's a prince in it! :)
Jen's Pick:
Just One Year by Gayle Forman: Do I even need to explain this choice? I loved If I Stay/Where She Went and devoured Just One Day. I must know how Allyson and Willem's story ends.
Tahleen's Pick:
I had to participate this time because I actually bought a book. Well, an audio book. Many of you know my love of Bill Bryson, especially listening to him narrate his work, so of course I preordered his newest book, One Summer: America, 1927. It came out on October 1, so I technically spent $30 on it about a month ago, but I am only just listening to it now.
Julia's Pick:
Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt. This is the next book in my much loved Maiden Lane series. I think it is the sixth. I absolutely adore this series! It's so creative and fun and of course sexy. The last book I was a little disappointed in so I am anxious to see where this new one will fall on my "love it or loathe it" scale. As soon as I get to the bookstore, this is going to be in my hands!
Daisy's Pick:
Crewel by Gennifer Albin: I absolutely ADORE this cover and the book just sounds so good! I couldn't help myself and ordered it after all... I've been meaning to read it for ages!
I think it has to be S. by Doug Dorst & J. J. Abrams for me -- not that $20 would cover the whole cost!
ReplyDeleteI've been anxious to read S., too, Lisa. I've actually got it waiting for me at the library, but I'm lowering my expectations due to some professional reviews that were less (a lot less) than raving.
DeleteAnd I've got Champion on pre-order! I'm so far behind on my reading, but everything will get tossed aside as soon as it lands on my doorstep.

Wait what is this book you speak of?? I've never heard of it!
DeleteDaisy, don't get attached to that cover. It got changed and it is no where near as beautiful. =( Saddest news of the year for me...
ReplyDeleteI know :( And I really don't like it either...
DeleteThis is such a great question. Right now I think I'll have to say Champion. I'm dying to read it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend!
I am so ready for Champion. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Legend series!
ReplyDeleteThe Shadowhunter's codex would need to be my answer this month! I am so excited! Its on its way thoguth the postal system now! yay!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I recently read Crewel and It was really good! It had a great concept which confused but excited me! x
Oh this is a hard one. I went to the bookstore the other day and spent all of my lunch trying to figure out what I want! So I would probably pick new release and use coupon for it. I really don't know what though lol
ReplyDeleteLast week I bought Parasite by Mira Grant, which was the first full price book that I bought in a while (although $20 would not be enough to cover it). The November book that I am excited about is Curtsies and Conspiracies by Gail Carriger.
ReplyDeleteAltered by Gennifer Albin. I LOVED Crewel! :)
ReplyDeleteWith my last $20 this weekend, I've gone kindle crazy and bought...
ReplyDeleteTomorrow There Will Be Apricots by Jessica Soffer
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller
Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut
The Grove by John Rector
Anvil of God: Book One of the Carolingian Chronicles by J. Boyce Gleason
Total: $13.39
(Thank God I get paid this coming Friday.)
