Top Ten Tuesday Rewind With Jamie!

For information about Top Ten Tuesday and how to participate or to see the schedule for the upcoming TTT, go here.

For my rewind topic today, I'm going to pick Top Ten Books I Feel Everyone Has Read But Me

1. 50 Shades of Grey. Whether or not people love it or loathe it, I feel like everyone has at least tried it and given into the curiosity. I just refuse to. I know I won't like it, based on hearing some readings of passages, so why bother?

2. Harry Potter: I know, I'm a sinner. I should not be allowed to blog about books anymore, right?

3. The Help by Kathryn Stockett: Even my friends who don't READ have read this book. I own it but  I just haven't gotten to it yet.

4. The Vampire Academy series: I think everyone in the YA community has read this series, yes? At least it feels that way when I'm always around bloggers as they love to rave about this one.

5. Divergent: by Veronica Roth: I had gotten half way through it and had to return it to the library and then just never got around to finishing it due to my crazy busy life right now.

6. Anything Jodi Picoult: I feel like everyone has read at LEAST one Jodi Picoult book in their lifetime. NOT me. I own some of them that I got for 25 cents at a garage sale.

7. Jane Eyre: Seriously, am I the last person alive to read this book? I should have gotten to it already.

8. The Night Circus: YA and Adult bloggers alike have been obsessed with this one since ARCS started rolling out. It sounds super interesting to me but I just haven't had time to pick it up.

9. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green: I love John Green. LOVE LOVE LOVE. It seems like this was everyone's most anticipated book, and I was excited about it too, but it seems like EVERYONE really did run out and buy this and read it the next day. MUST GET TO IT.

10. The Mortal Instruments series: I'm much overdue to start this series. It's such a popular series and I don't know why I've ignored it for so long. I hope the hype doesn't kill it for me.

  1. I haven't read 50 Shades of Grey either. Part of me wants to, but the other part...not so much.

You really should read Jane Eyre, though. It's fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Great list! I think it is totally fine to go through life without reading Jody Picoult but NOT TFiOS. It really is as good as all the hype.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Thanks for the rewind topic :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. I haven't read many of those either, in fact apart from Harry Potter I haven't read any of them! I know what you mean about The Help, though, because a lot of my friends have raved about it, yet I still haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I should definitely read Jane Eyre at some point - because of my degree my knowledge of British literature is, ironically, much, much worse than my knowledge of American lit, even though I grew up in the UK... :) Great list!

  5. I havent read 50 Shades either and I probably never will. Have no desire to even think about reading it. Maybe that makes me weird, but whatever.
I havent gotten to TFIOS yet either, but I will. Eventually.
The Night Circus just doesnt seem like my kid of book.
TMI - i've read those, but I dont absolutely love them more than anything else. They're good, but not excellent... in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I've accepted that I might never read The Help (for some reason I want to but don't want to at the same time) or The Fault in Our Stars (too emotional). But who knows, the day might come when I really do get to them.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I am purposefully not reading Fifty Shades of Gray! I don't want to perpetuate the phenomenon, even though I'm only one little person.

We went with fictional crushes, and it was super fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. I haven't read anything by Jodi Picoult either nor have I read The Fault in Our Stars. I should probably get on that sometime soon! Great list by the way :)

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm right there with you on Fifty Shades of Gray! ... oh, and check out my TTT; you are definitely not the only person who hasn't read Jane Eyre! :) It's been sitting on my bookshelf for a couple years and I have yet to crack it. You're in good company.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I too haven't read 50 Shade or The Fault in the Stars. The first I could take or leave, the second I just haven't gotten around to. I also sadly haven't read the Book Thief yet.
I went with Childhood Favorites this time.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I still haven't read Harry Potter, The Mortal Instrument series, or Divergernt!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I haven't read several of those books... don't really have much desire to either. I started The Help and The Night Circus... they were okay, but I couldn't really find the energy to finish them. And yeah... you probably shouldn't be allowed to blog anymore since you haven't read Harry Potter. :) Just kidding!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I picked the same topic. I'll add to the linky list when I can (it's blocked at work), but here's my list: www.colindsmith.com/blog.

JANE EYRE was a lot better than I expected it to be. Definitely worth the time to read. I have no interest whatsoever in 50 SHADES. But I would also add THE NIGHT CIRCUS to your "must-read-soon" list--it's beautifully written. If you've read and enjoyed JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORRELL by Susanna Clarke, you'll love THE NIGHT CIRCUS--the style is very similar.

  14. You know, aside from the Harry Potter books, I haven't read anything on your list either! Granted, some it's because I'm not that interested in reading them while others are on my TBR list and I just haven't gotten around to reading them. :) There are so many books out there, we can only read so many!

    ReplyDelete
  15. The widget won't show for me for some reason! Here's my TTT: http://lilisreflections.blogspot.com/2012/06/top-ten-tuesday-3.html

    ReplyDelete
  16. I still haven't read Divergent yet, either. I bought it almost a year ago, and it's been sitting on my shelf ever since.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Have you seriously not read HP? That's terrible. Please push it to #1 on your TBR list.
As for me, I haven't read Night Circus, Divergent or Vampire Academy either, although they are on Mount TBR. 50 Shades is also something I refuse to read. And you should read The Fault in Our Stars asap.

I did something different with this week's freebie - I chose ten questions to answer because I was too indecisive! You're welcome to check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I tried to read 50 Shades for the lolz, but it's so incredibly horrible I couldn't do it. The content is sketchy and the writing is just so...*shudder* I think I made it three pages before something in my brain broke and I had to stop.

I did my list on genre picks - I'd made 2 lists when that theme first came up, and it was so hard to choose which one to go with! I'm glad this freebie came up so I could finally post the other one!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I consider myself "somebody" and I haven't read #1,4,8 either, though I do have a request in for the Night circus at the public library. This is an interesting rewind topic I will have to remember for the next time. Check out my list at Top Ten Places I Hope to Be Caught Reading

    ReplyDelete
  20. Surprisingly - I've read a lot of those! I highly recommend Harry Potter, Divergent, and The Help!

I am kind of a book snob when it comes to Mortal Instruments. I don't like Clare's style of writing - it really bothered me. I finally figured it out in the 4th book - when there is a chance to fill up a page, the character bites their lip and tastes blood. In 2 chapters, I read that ten times. No joke. And then every so often she would take a word and thesaurus it and make it this extremely large word that I've never even heard of. The storyline and characters were good, but in the end, I had to put them down because of her writing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Great list! I haven't read 50 Shades Of Grey either, but mostly because it doesn't sound interesting to me. I'll have to remember this topic for another time, because it's a really good one.

    ReplyDelete
  22. JAMIE, YOU SHOULD FIX #2 IMMEDIATELY! I think #9 is far more plausible though, go forth and read it. With a lot of tissues in hand.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 50 Shades of Grey, The Help, The Vampire Academy series, Divergent, Anything Jodi Picoult, The Night Circus, The Fault In Our Stars ... Wow, these are a lot of books that I have not read as well. :) (7/10)

I keep hearing and reading about 50 Shades of Grey, The Night Circus, The Help, and The Fault in Our Stars.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I haven't read most of the things on your list either. I do want to read The Night Circus at some point. A lot of people have liked it. Divergent is brilliant! I loved it and really recommend that.

I've read the first two books of The Mortal Instrument series and sort of gave up because the love triangle and the writing annoyed me. But there have been some good reviews of the recent ones so maybe it's improved. I might try them out again.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Totally loved the rewind theme this week, since I haven't been doing Top Ten Tuesdays for very long. It was so hard settling on one topic!

I can relate to so much on your list. I haven't read 50 Shades either, and I keep going back and forth on whether or not I will. I'd likely just be reading it for the sake of the hype, which is a ridiculous reason to read not only one book, but a series of three! (Also, I don't like making fun of books - never mind books I haven't read - but 50 Shades of Suck is kind of hilarious and continues to confirm that I wouldn't like the books. Oy.)

I haven't read The Help or The Night Circus either (that one's everywhere!), and I've never read any Jodi Picoult or John Green. I have an overwhelming list of books I haven't read, haha.

I did like what I read of HP, but honestly I never finished the last book. And Jane Eyre is my favorite ever, it's so moody and scenic and Jane is one of the most empowering female characters I've read. Love, love, love.

    ReplyDelete
  26. For some reason I can't comment via my Wordpress.com account. It keeps telling me I don't own my username. :) Anyway, happy to be able to finish the post on the topic from last week and post it today.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm right there with you on 50 Shades. And I also haven't read Night Circus, Vampire Academy, Fault in Our Stars, or anything by Jodi Picoult. I DO have Book 1 of Mortal Instruments out from the library right now, so hopefully I will soon understand what all the hype is about.

I'd highly recommend Harry Potter though. The writing, the character development, the world building, and her attention to detail set it so far above most YA books. It's fabulous.

    Here's my TTT!

    ReplyDelete
  28. That's a great idea topic for a rewind! I'm going to remember that for later. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Great list... I've read a couple, but many of them are still on my To Read list. =)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I read 50 Shades of Gray and feel you're definitely not missing anything. I too own The Help but haven't read it. I thought TFIOS was beautiful and remains the best book I've read all year.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for a great meme!

Ditto on not reading the Harry Potter series. However, I've listened to so many people talk about it, there will be no feelings of suspense if I ever get around to it. I love Jodi Picoult, but I haven't been in 3 hanky mood for a long time. I wish I could say that it will be a VERY long time before I read another YA vampire novel, but I'm reviewing YALSA'S Top Ten Teen Nominations, and I am sure that there's a vamp-meets-girl in there somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Have not, and am not going to read 50 Shades of Grey. It doesn't interest me at all, and book bloggers who I follow (who have read & reviewed it) have not been particularly effusive about it. At any rate, I don't feel like I'm missing much.

I have read all of Harry Potter but the last one, which is widely regarded as the best one. Nevertheless, I have not been able to get motivated to read it.

I HAVE read both Jane Eyre & The Help, and I loved both of them. If they're on your list, that's good. When you get to them, I suspect you will enjoy them immensely!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ha! I have only read Harry Potter, The Help, and Divergent on your list. I did try to read Jane Eyre. Hated it. I am an Austen girl, all the way. Great list, and fun topic!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I still haven't read The Help or the Mortal Instruments series either. I finally bit the bullet and started Vampire Academy earlier this year and finished the whole thing within two months. Love Harry Potter, Divergent, and The Fault in Our Stars!

  35. [gasp] you haven't read Harry Potter or [double gasp] Jane Eyre! I thought they were required reading on that invisible list of books that are mandatory for all readers! *wink, wink* The best part of reading is you don't have to read what everybody else is reading, we get to read what appeals to us. Have a nice day. kaye—the road goes ever ever on

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've never read anything by Jodi Picoult either, except for the first page of a novel that I promptly returned to the store because I disliked the writing so much. I definitely recommend The Night Circus though, and am completely astonished that you've lasted so long without reading Harry Potter or Jane Eyre! I didn't know that was possible!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I feel like the biggest bestseller I've missed so far but really want to get to is UNBROKEN. It's one of the few books I've encountered that has universally good reviews, but somehow I've just not gotten around to yet.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I haven't read 4/10 of these, so you're not completely alone.

But seriously, you need to read Harry Potter.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Good one. I'm with you on most of them. I will NEVER read Harry Potter, sorry! I did read 50 and Vampire Academy and loved them both, but we are all different. Great list! :-)

  40. I actually haven't read a lot of those either lol!! I have read HP, Divergent, and The Mortal Instruments series, but haven't read the others either.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hi Jamie, I'm totally with you on Fifty Shades of Grey-I read one page and it was awful. Stay strong!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Harry Potter!? What are you waiting for??? Don't worry, I know for a fact that you're not the only one, although I've read them lots of times & plan to re-read the series this year :)
As for the others, I'm not the one to talk ;) I read Divergent only a couple of months ago (loved it) & as for The Night Circus, I've been reading it at the beginning of February & loved it & couldn't put it down, but I haven't been able to make myself to pick it up & finish it since then :( I have only 150 pages to go, and yeah, it's been almost 4 months, but I still remember every second of it, and I don't want for it to finish, so I think that's the reason. I might be a little weird when it comes to this book :) I finally read Jane Eyre & only City of Bones a couple of years ago, and I read only Vampire Academy a few months ago after putting it on my list for books I felt everyone have read but me. I actually decided to read half of those books since then & I did & VA was one of them :) The rest of your picks I haven't read, too :) Now, what will My Top Ten Tuesday be this week? Maybe I should do a part 2 of this theme?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I can't believe you haven't read Harry Potter! Craziness! I haven't read 50 shades of grey either but have no intention of doing so or anything by Jodi Picoult.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Rest assured, I have never tried reading 50 Shades of Grey and I know I never will. ;)

I'm right there with you though when it comes to The Fault In Our Stars. I want to read it so, so bad! *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  45. I haven't read all of these either...you're not alone. We might be the minority, but not alone :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I also refuse to read 50 Shades. Blech.

I have not yet read VA series either, so you're not alone. I do want to but it's hard to fit in everything I want!

The Help is excellent, as are Jodi Picoult's novels. I recommend Sing You Home and The Pact.

I tried HP but I couldn't get through the 5th one. They're long and I couldn't do it! As for Jane Eyre, I say forget that one. It wasn't as good as I hoped.

  47. I am right there with you with 1,3,4 and 8!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I still haven't read The Fault in Our Stars! I bought it right after it came out but never got to it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. This will be my first one...so thanks for the awesomeness!

And don't worry, I've not read...well, all of them aside from the Harry Potter series. The best part about those? They're actually a really good quick read. Or, alternately, if you'd like an audio treat, check out the audiobooks from your local library. Jim Dale, the man who does ALL of the voices on the audiobooks, is a wonder! Plus! You can get the benefit of "reading" the books while cleaning or driving. I don't usually recommend audio books, but I definitely do in the case of Harry Potter.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The only book I've read on this list is Harry Potter. There are a lot on this list that have piqued my interest since I've started blogging like The Fault in Our Stars and The Night Circus. Others, not so much. Like 50 Shades of Grey? I'm content with feeling like I'm the only person who hasn't read it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Haven't read Harry Potter?? You must must must!! I haven't read the Mortal Instruments yet, either and I really want to. Eventually, I will. Hope you will eventually read Harry Potter!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I was all set to make you feel better by saying you're not the only one, but when I looked at your list, I realised I actually had read most of the books. Sorry, you're on your own, girl ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. That's an impressive list. I think you've have to be actively avoiding some of those books to not have read them. That being said, I haven't read 5 of those books either. And I did my list this week on the Books I Can't Believe I Haven't Read. The Help and The Fault in our Stars are on my list as well.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I thought I was the only one who hadn't read all the Harry Potter books! I'm planning to read them all this summer though :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I strongly recommend Jane Eyre and The Help! I also haven't read Fifty Shades of Grey or Harry Potter.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I attempted to read Fifty Shades, but stopped after three chapters; however, I'm very excited for the parody, Fifty Shames of Earl Gray by Fanny Merkin (aka Andrew Schaffer.) I love parodies, and I hope this one will be hilarious!

I do, however, recommend Vampire Academy. The first two aren't as good as the rest, though, but they are amazing. Love them.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I haven't read The Fault in Our Stars, either ... though, I do have it on my shelf waiting to be read! I also have the Fifty Shades series on my Kobo, but I haven't read them. I'm not sure if I will, but they're there if I want to!

I really think you should read Divergent AND The Mortal Instruments series! And Harry Potter! Shame on you for not reading them yet. :)

    Great list!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I did a similar type of list! My top ten are all books on my shelf that are hopelessly neglected. The Night Circus is among them! I also haven't read Jane Eyre and it's on my massive TBR list too!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I've read the first Harry Potter book, but none of the others. I've also read The Help. I may have read Jane Eyre, but I really can't remember. All the Brontes just run together for me! So you're certainly not the only one who hasn't read all those on your list :-)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am SO glad that I'm NOT the only one who hasn't read the Vampire Academy series. That made me happy! I do have to say I can't believe you haven't read the HP books. They are SO good and there are SOOOO many people and things that are not in the movies. You get a completely different sense of who the characters really are in the books. I actually can't believe how similar my list would be to yours for this! I am plannign to read Night Circus and the Immortal Instruments series this summer b/c I haven't yet. I refuse to read the Shade of Gray books and have never read a Picoult book. Fun list!

    ReplyDelete
  61. This is my first time, and I'm so excited! I decided to do the list y'all did last week: The books form the past 10 years that I hope we're reading in 30! Ch-ch-check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I haven't read 50 Shades of Grey either. But Harry Potter, Vampire Academy, The Mortal Instruments and Divergent are must reads. The Help I can do without. Jane Eyre I'm actually in the middle of reading.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm passing on my weekly memes this week to do the ArmchairBEA, but I'm still going to read everyone's posts. Anywho, I haven't read 50 Shades of Grey yet, and I'm still debating on whether I will read it. Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classics that I re-read every couple of years. I love Harry Potter and that's all I'll say on that subject! hehe And I also have The Fault in Our Stars on my To Read list! I hope you plan to read at least some of these eventually!

    ReplyDelete
  64. ha I like the prompt you chose! I feel that way about certain series too. I also need to get on The Mortal Instruments series, The Fault in Our Stars, and The Night Circus. I haven't read much Jodi Picoult, but one of her most popular books is My Sister's Keeper, and I thought that was really good. You really should read Harry Potter at some point too. I hope you're able to read some of those books soon!
P.S. My response double-posted for some reason. I'm sorry about that!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Out of these I've only read HP and one of the Mortal Instruments series, so you're not alone!

    ReplyDelete
  66. You're not alone. The only books from that list that I have read is TMI (not that good), VA (loved) and the last two books of HP. LoL

  67. From your list I've only read The Help and The Harry Potter Books. I can't see me ever reading the 50 Shades books either and Jane Eyre is way down my list as well.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hi Daisy!

I found your blog through a link on Brittany at The Book Addict's Guide's site. I loved your Top Ten list and had to comment. After much literary peer pressure from multiple friends, I finally gave in and read the first 50 Shades - I hated it. Despised Mr. Grey. I was promised that the second one would be better. And it was, BUT, not good enough for me to continue on to number 3. I just don't like spending my reading time reading something I don't like.

With regard to "The Help", it really is good. I'm glad it's something you plan to read. For as much as I enjoy a lot of YA series, I have not read The Vampire Academy or The Mortal Instruments series. I've tried, but just could not get into them.

I enjoyed Divergent, The Night Circus and several Jodi Picoult books. Probably my favorite is "Sing You Home". I have not read "Jane Eyre" or any John Green books.

Other books that I have a hard time getting into that seem to be very popular are the Wicked series.

I'm subscribing to your blog, and have enjoyed finding your posts.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thank you! I am so glad that several of my never reads are also on your list, makes me feel better. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Don't worry Jaime, I didn't finish Jane Eyre (although I WAS enjoying it, and I'm not sure why I put it down!). I bought The Night Circus shortly after it was published, but it's just sitting on my shelf collecting dust. You MUST read Harry Potter though. Must, must, MUST.

    ReplyDelete
  71. This is an awesome weekly feature and I had so much fun writing it! I chose to pick the top 10 characters I would want to switch places with. I want to do all of the topics now :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. I loathe Jane Eyre. I chose to list ten pretty pretty book covers over on my blog Ink. I was even able to locate interviews with a couple of the designers.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Do read Jane Eyre! Everybody reads it for a reason. :)

I, too, am wanting to read the Divergent series. I keep hearing rave reviews, and it's made me very curious.

    ReplyDelete
  74. The only two I have read are Jane Eyre and The Fault in our Stars - highly recommend both.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Don't feel so badly! I can commiserate. The only books I've read out of your list were Divergent and Jane Eyre. I only read Jane Eyre last month, though, so I don't think I should get a medal for that one, haha. I am curious as to how you were able to put Divergent down and not go crazy getting stopped in the middle! I found it pretty addicting... :)

    ReplyDelete
  76. The only books on that list I have read are the Harry Potter series and The Fault In Our Stars. I must add that I also have no desire to read 50 Shades of Grey - it really doesn't seem like my thing.

    ReplyDelete
  77. how come you've never read harry potter and jodi picoult? just curious. @_@

    ReplyDelete
  78. The best part of waiting to read Harry Potter and The Mortal Instruments series is you will not need to WAIT for the next book to come out. As a John Green lover I think you really need to move on The Fault in our Stars. It is brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Don't worry! I actually have not read a lot of the books on your list, which is not surprising to me haha. But I do insist you (eventually) read Harry Potter and that you finish Divergent! :)
