HAPPY NEW YEAR! WELCOME 2013!
Hey everyone! Happy New Year to you and yours. May the troubles of 2012 stay in 2012, and may 2013 bring you great prosperity and good tidings. That said, 2012 saw an exponential growth in my TBR pile. My To-Read shelf is now greater than my read shelf... and over 500 books high. Good thing it's digital. I recently did a list of my books that I will be reading for the 2013 TBR challenge. I may repeat some of them, but there are definitely other books that I want to include in my 2013 resolution. Let's get to them shall we?
Julia's Top Ten Books I Resolve To Read in 2013
- A Feast for Crows and A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin I am trudging through A Feast for Crows now, but this is seriously my first goal of 2013, reading wise anyway. I need to read both of these huge books AND watch season one and two of Game of Thrones, before March. Can it be done? Absolutely! I just need to stop reading Christmas themed romance novels and get back to Crows...
- Heart of Steel and Riveted by Meljean Brooks I read The Iron Duke back in like March or something, and it was awesome. People who like the sexytimes and some amazingly built Steampunk world, read this! I've heard that Riveted is amazing, but to get there I need to read Heart of Steel, too.
- Divergent by Veronica Roth This one made it on my challenge list. Oh, Divergent. I have been trying to read you since you came out. I actually have this one as an eBook, so there is no excuses!
- How the Marquess Was Won and A Notorious Countess Confesses by Julie Anne Long Another series I am trying to catch up on. I am only two behind now, with the next release sometime in summer of next year (maybe?). It's a hit and miss series for me. The last one was a hit, so hopefully these two will match that and not some of the others.
- Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card I MUST READ THIS! Especially before the movie comes out. Maybe that is in the summer? I don't know, but I actually own this one as well, so it must be done!
- Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines This book sounds like my dream come true. Apparently from what I heard it contains elements of being able to reach into the story, take out an item (like for instance "The One Ring") and the put it back when you are done with it. Are you kidding me!? If I had a genie wish it would be to jump into books; taking things out of book is a close second.
- Heartless and Timeless by Gail Carriger Tragically, I fell off the bandwagon where this series is concerned. Too many books, too little time. I really enjoyed Soulless, but unfortunately can't remember much of the other two. So I need to give these another go.
- What Alice Knew by Paula Marantz Cohen This book intrigues me to know end. I saw it at the airport one day and bought it when it was on sale in an eBook. Must read it!
- I Love It When You Talk Retro: Hoochie Coochie, Double Whammy, Drop a Dime, and the Forgotten Origins of American Speech by Ralph Keyes I have been searching for a good origin of English idioms for quite some time (not hard mind you, but searching). This book seems like an amazing factoid book that I must buy!
- All of the eBooks that I buy when they are 99c. I seriously have such a problem with that. Especially this month. With agency pricing going to way of the dodo, some of the sales have been awesomely amazing as my pocket book can tell you. Unfortunately I have not read too many of them... hence the encompass all of number 10.
Seriously this list can be called the "Julia catches up with her serieses" or "Julia reads all the books she buys" Let's be real here... that second one is a long shot.
Anyway what does your list like? Link up below and peruse everyone else's lists as you recover from New Years Eve :)
Bring it on, 2013!!
Ender's Game is one of my favorite books ever! Hope you love it! :)
ReplyDeleteDivergent was EXCELLENT. Though I have sorta mixed feelings on book 2.
ReplyDeleteEnder's Game is in my top five favorite books of all time. I've read it so much the paperback cover came off! Ender is a character who will melt your heart, and the Battle School/the Game is one of those places in books (along with Hogwarts) that I wish really existed.
I laughed at your #10 because I do the same thing! Blast you cheap book deals!
Lauren @ Hughes Reviews
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that lets series fall off and amazing books get left behind for the next bright shiny one! :) You seriously must read Divergent, though...
ReplyDeleteI also really have a problem with the $0.99 books. They're so hard to pass up!!
I can agree with you on number 10. I am guilty of buying a lot of books lately that have been on crazy good sales. Good luck with your goal :)
ReplyDeleteCristal @ Life & Times of a Book Addict
What a fun way to spend the last day of the year. Enjoyed compiling my list and I love your inclusion of the 99-cent books. Those and the freebies haunt my bookish nightmares, all screaming to be read. Happy New Year to you and to all my new-found book blogging friends.
ReplyDeleteI just bought Divergent, I'm reading it next! Happy New Year!!!
ReplyDeleteI too have Divergent on my list! I feel like I've been meaning to read that FOREVER, and everybody keeps recommending it to me nonstop. I swear I'll get to it this year! It'll happen!
ReplyDeleteGillian @ Writer of Wrongs
I loved Divergent. It's incredible. Read that one soon.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I totally understand #10. It is definitely a huge temptation.
Happy New Years!
You'll like Ender's Game I'm sure. That speech book sounds like a lot of fun, especially to older people like myself. I'm so glad to finally be able to participate in Top Ten Tueday. Thank you. Happy reading in 2013.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Great list =) I hope you enjoy GRRM's A Feast of Crows & A Dance With Dragons; it's a bit different from the first three books, I find, but just as interesting. Ooh, and thanks for the reminder of Ender's Game, totally forgot the adaptation is coming out this year!
ReplyDeleteHere's my reading list for 2013 =)
Divergent is pretty good, I think that you will enjoy it. Also, good choice with Ender's Game. I have not read that one yet, either, but I do want to, maybe this is the year for it! Happy New Years!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know most of the books on your list, but I got Insurgent, the second book of Divergent on my list too! Happy new year and goodluck with your new year resolutions! :)
ReplyDeleteIf you think Libriomancer sounds good, you should try Grimm Legacy! It's about a girl who gets a job working in a museum where they keep artifacts from fairy tales! Including the table that sets itself, an invisibility cloak - all of it. It was so fantastically good.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year :)
That sound really great! I think that might be added on my TBR Pile :)
DeleteMy list
Oooh, yeah, I need to read Ender's Game, too. Great list! Happy New Year! ;)
ReplyDeleteI need to read Ender's Game, especially with the movie coming out.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I get suckered by those 99 cent e-books too. Or even 1.99. I just can't pass up a good deal on a book I want to read! Good luck with your list! You have some good reading ahead of you from the looks of it.
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy New Year!
you should definitely read ender's game. i only recently read it and it was not what i expected at all, but it was great. and i need to catch up on the soulless series, too. i've only read the first one.
ReplyDeletehappy new year!
I haven't even begun to start any of the Game of Thrones series and I definitely need to this year.
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem of buying books when they're really cheap for kindle... and they just pile up and up.
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT post for this week.
Happy New Year :)
Game of Thrones didn't make my top ten list, but it is definitely something I want to pick up this year. I'm interested in the steam punk movement, so I'm going to add The Iron Duke and it's fellows to my growing TBR list. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI love that list! I like lists, and I like books, what a great combination. I probably won´t come anywhere near finishing mine, but we´ll see. I wish you all the best for the new year and great reading! :-)
ReplyDelete99 cent books are SO hard to resist because you can't find them anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Divergent right now because I was determined it wasn't going to sit on TBR mountain any longer. Next up, Grave Mercy and for the same reason. I won't ever catch up but I do want to hit some of the major titles I missed. And, I agree that Ender's Game was amazing. I can't wait to see what they do to make it a movie. Happy reading and good luck with reading your list.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! A Clash of Kings is on my list. I want to read it before I watch season 2 of Game of Thrones and then I will move on to book 3.
ReplyDeleteI need to do better at reading eBooks too. I have so many, but I feel like they're hidden away on my device and I can't actually SEE them.
ReplyDeleteHa! #10 made me laugh. I do that all the time! My Kindle App is full of $.99 and free books that I just never get to. I also have Ender's Game on my list, I really need to finally read that one. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat list and Happy New Year!
I totally should have thought of Ender's Game! Divergent made it onto my list, and I'm just finishing up A Dance With Dragons this week. Awesome list! :D
ReplyDeleteI have Divergent on my list too! EVERYONE needs to read Ender's Game. It's amazing. Happy Reading and good luck!
ReplyDeleteEnders Game and Heartless are both really good!
ReplyDeleteI didn't put it on my list, but I totally second the "all 99 cent ebooks". Every time I see a deal I tell myself I have enough books to read all ready, but how can you beat a book for $1?
ReplyDeleteDivergent is one of my favorites! I hope you get a chance to read it and like it. :) I had to laugh when I read the $0.99 cent special because I do that too!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to read Divergent and love it as much as I do! Your number 10 is great. I tend to go overboard with buying ebooks and then never get around to reading them. :)
ReplyDeleteI really hope you get around to reading Divergent. It will be worth your time. I also love your #10, all the 99 cents books I buy on my reader. I have at least 8 books or so that I bought really cheap for my reader and have yet to read. lol Thanks for reminding me.
ReplyDeleteA Feast for Crows is also on my list! I'm so intimidated by its size because the previous books isn the series took more than a week to read and it's one of those books you have to focus because so much is happening and there are so many characters. I hope you get to finish it soon!
ReplyDeleteThis was a heck of a lot easier than I expected! Guess that just means I have A LOT of books to get to in 2013. Happy reading, everyone!
ReplyDeleteNice list and good luck with getting through it. I can identify with all the unread e-books. My Kobo has a ton of books on it that I need to get around to reading. Happy New Year and thanks for hosting Top Ten Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this meme for a while, but its my first time participating. Now off I go to browse some other's to-read lists.
ReplyDeleteDivergent is on my list, too. I have a problem with downloading cheap ebooks, too. =)
ReplyDeleteAwesome list, I am resolving to read Divergent too! I just finished Libriomancer and am pumped to see it on your list!!!! You can't actually get the one ring, since they make sure that items that are too dangerous are locked, so don't worry, the world isn't ending any time soon ;-) This does meant that there is a job involving reading as many books as possible to keep an eye out for dangerous and useful items and cataloguing them :D
ReplyDelete2013 is going to be my year of finishing off series and reading all my ebooks too!
ReplyDeleteDivergent is on my list too, have had it in the bookshelf for too long!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm surprised you haven't read Divergent yet. Of course if I look at all the books I haven't read yet that I should have, I hang my head in shame. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time doing the Top 10 Tuesday! Thanks for everything and good luck with your list!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your Top Ten list and thought it was a great idea. Thanks for hosting it!!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to get to Divergent forever!
ReplyDeleteDivergent is such a fun and adventurously fast read! You'll fly right through it! Ender's Game is one that I've wanted to read forever now! It's actually a required reading at the high school I teach at, but I've just never gotten to it! I even have a copy on both my shelves at home AND on my NOOK! How stinking sad is that!? Jeesh! People keep telling me that I should read the Game of Thrones series but it's SO HUGE! :( I just can't get interested in it at all! :( I am SO glad to hear that I'm not the only person with the problem of buying 99 cent eBooks and letting them overflow my account! I have SO MANY to get to! Happy reading my dear!
ReplyDeleteTop 10 @Libby Blog
I don't know how the movie will be, but the book Ender's Game was amazing, so you have to read it, and I think the movie will be out near the end of 2013, although I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteGreat list, I need to read some of these, too :)
Happy New Year!
Divergent and Ender's Game are both absolutely amazing! That's a very good list you have there.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Book 2 of Song of Fire and Ice right now! I love them, but they take a huge amount of time to read! I can't wait to see the TV show either, I want to hold off for a while til I have more books read! And Ender's Game is amazing! I had to read it for school and its still one of my favorite books! Which says something!
ReplyDeleteSo excited to start joining in the fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year everybody!
xo
Alex @ likewordsandstuff.blogspot.com
Oh, yes. I need to get back into reading George R.R. Martin again too. I always say I'm going to read the book before the show starts again but it never happens. I've read 1 and 2 so far. :) And you must read the Gail Carriger series, they're so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThe Top Ten Books I Resolve to Read in 2013!
Well, I just started the Top Ten thing and I'm so glad that I did! It really gets me thinking and I'm so glad that you all are sponsoring this! You've got a few things that I want to read but didn't make my top ten: mostly Ender's Game and the Game of Thrones books. I just downloaded the first one from my library and I'm stoked. PS - Divergent is awesome. I'll need to reread it before the third one comes out!
ReplyDeleteI'm only on A Clash of Kings right now and I'm trying to get through all the books that are currently published this year. But it takes me so long to read George R R Martin. Trudging is definitely the word I'd choose too.
ReplyDeleteDivergent is awesome, you'll enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this, it was a good topic for me to think about and get some of my reading for 2013 sorted. I'll be back for more Top Ten Tuesday fun!
I really need to read Ender's Game as well! Divergent is amazing, I hope you like it! :)
ReplyDeleteLove love your list.. Mine is up also it took me a while because there are some many books out there that I want to read :)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading everyone and Happy New Year
Jessica has Ender's Game on her list as well and Jacqueline has the sequel on her list. Hope you enjoy Divergent!
ReplyDeleteDIVERGENT! NO EXCUSES! haha. It's really good! Good luck with your list!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: http://nightmareonbookstreet.blogspot.com/2013/01/top-ten-tuesday-i-totally-resolve-these.html
I'd like to try out The Game of Thrones series this year. OH Divergent is on my list and I'm actually co-hosting a Divergent read-a-long this month if you are interested. I've added What Alice Knew to my Goodreads TBR list - it sounds fascinating.
ReplyDeleteHaha, and I 100% agree on all those 99c (or free) ebooks! I'm SO bad at reading ebooks after I buy them. I think it's because I can't see them, or I forget what they are about...
My Top Ten Books I Resolve to Read in 2013.
Wow, I haven't read any of these and only Divergent is on my list. Strange. But I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one who hasn't read it 'cause it sure feels like I am.
ReplyDeleteI was contemplating buying Game of Thrones for sometime in the bookstore but then I went ahead and bought Gone Girl instead.
Here's my Top Ten Tuesday!
Sana @ artsy musings of a bibliophile
I'm hoping to get to A Dance With Dragons this year too - I had a bit of a break after reading A Feast for Crows, but I think I'm ready for Westeros once more!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeletecant wait to join top ten tuesday! looks like fun. i think i finally am sucessful in creating a book blog!
ReplyDeleteComing late to the party... but here nonetheless! I love your #10! I feel the same way...soo many books on my kindle, it isn't funny! Glad they don't add to the weight of the kindle, or I would need a crane to drag it around with me!
ReplyDeleteI'm a week late but here it is http://neyhart.blogspot.com/2013/01/top-ten-books-to-read-in-2013.html
