Reading Goal Progress with Paula!

Hey everyone! So I made pretty much this exact same post last year. But the facts are this: It's nearing the end of October. Reading Goals are looming. And I'm just as curious about your progress this year as I was last year!

Here are my personal challenges of this year and their status report:

-Read 45 books: Currently reading book 38. Which according to Goodreads is 1 book ahead!
-Read 18,000 pages: Currently at 14,800 which is right on target
-Read 5 books from shelf before buying new ones: Completed in February yayy!
-Read more Discworld novels: .... err haven't yet...
-Participate in Goodreads Challenge: Completed this summer!
-Read a Charles Dickens novel: Haven't yet... there's always A Christmas Carol!
-Start A Song of Fire and Ice (Game of Thrones): Completed in May. I've currently read up to book 3.

So I think I'm doing pretty okay so far this year. Definitely better than I was last year!
How about you all? What are your personal reading challenges/goals this year? Have you gotten through them or is it crunch time?

  2. Yay! Good for you! I fell off most of my reading goals that were super specific, but my main goal was to read 52 books (one a week) and I just hit 52 yesterday!! So yay us!

  3. Well I met my main reading goal, but I've only read one classic this year (I was supposed to read 12), but on the other hand I've surpassed my goal of reading five nonfiction titles, so I guess it's half and half haha.

    1. Oh wow! Good for you with the non-fiction. I always want to read non-fiction but then when it comes to choosing my next book, my hand always ignores the non-fictions on my shelf.

  4. I only did one challenge this year and that was to read 100 books. I am 1 book away, so yay! I think I may add a few more challenges for next year. :) I'm always trying to read more Discworld - I own all of them and read about 1/3. That might be a good challenge for next year. Also, Christmas Carol is short, so you could probably read it in a day or two. :)

  5. good for you!
I'm in 25 challenges this year, I'm done with more than half, and humming along with the rest.
here is where I was for each at the end of September. I always include my reading challenges stats in my monthly wrap-up: http://wordsandpeace.com/2012/10/02/september-2012-wrap-up/.
so I made the list of books I need to read before the end of the year to finish them all.
    I should pretty close.

  6. You're doing so well! I love the idea of reading a number of books off your shelves before you're allowed to buy new ones, will have to do that next year!

    1. I must admit it is a VERY difficult challenge. Suddenly new books seem so much prettier and desirable. Good luck!

  7. My goals were a bit loosey-goosey. I wanted to read 200 books and then the rest of my goals were things like read things that weren't new releases and read a variety of genres and formats. My last goal was to only read books I liked, which lead to a few DNFs! As far as numbers go, I have read/listened to 156 books and I am 7 books behind my goal. I blame George R.R. Martin. His books are crack, but they are so long and take me FOREVER to finish. They are slowing me down, but they are totally worth it!

    1. I agree about George RR Martin. I have book four on my shelf- and I'm really excited to read it- I just want to feel securely caught up in my goals before I immerse myself in it

  8. This post reminded me that I should probably take a look at my resolutions from January and see how I was doing, so I did that today! :) I'm doing pretty good...my goal of 130 books is going great, I'm at 113 woo!

I really like the idea of having to read some books from your shelf before buying new, I may have to borrow that one for next year! And I just bought A Christmas Carol for my December classic! :)
