Top Ten Books I Feel As Though
Everyone Has Read But Me
- Anna and the French Kiss: LIES. I can't technically can't put this on here as I just started reading it a few hours ago, but I did go quite a long time hearing everyone else gush about it. I felt left out! (I also now know why there was so much gushing).
- The Hunger Games: Nowadays, this is almost as bad as saying I've never read Harry Potter (which I have!).
- The Catcher in the Rye: What's the only high school in the United States of America that never assigned this book to it's students? Mine.
- Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close: Okay, I've truthfully never read this book because I can never find a synopsis that makes sense to me...I may need to just bite the bullet and go for it. I know Jamie loves it.
- The Great Gatsby: Again - what's the only high school in the United States of America that never assigned this book to it's students? Mine. I feel so intellectually deficient.
- A Clockwork Orange: Ditto to the above. This is getting sad.
- Water for Elephants: This book has been out so long it even has a movie yet I still haven't read it. I've heard nothing but rave reviews for it...I blame the library for never having a copy when I want it.
- The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo: I attempted to watch the movie in Swedish with no subtitles, but for some reason that didn't work out. I feel as if this would be a great series to get into.
- Lolita: I need to know how creepy it is.
- Twilight: Okayyyyyyy, I technically read most of the first book, but never continued after that. Even though I'm not at all motivated to read the rest of the books, I still feel weird with everyone talking about them and the new movies.
Check here for future topics!!
...I can't believe I forgot about Twilight! I've had people talk about them to me so many times that I feel like I've read them without having to read the less than good parts.ReplyDelete
The Great Gatsby is great though. You should check it out!
Unless you have a really huge reason you're avoiding The Hunger Games, I say "Go for it!". Great series. :DReplyDelete
I hope that you enjoy Anna and the French Kiss. There was stuff about that I loved and stuff I was neutral on.
I haven't read The Great Gatsby or A Clockwork Orange either, if that makes you feel better. :)
I've not read The Hunger Games either, but I have it scheduled for my Banned Books Week read. I've not read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo either, but have it on my nook also.ReplyDelete
I don't think any teacher in my school assigned A Clockwork Orange either. I know my teachers didn't
I JUST read THE HUNGER GAMES and I definitely think if you had to choose one from this list to read, that should be it.ReplyDelete
I haven't read ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS yet either, but it's on my shelf waiting for me.
And definitely read LOLITA! And THE GREAT GATSBY!!
Ok, I'll stop being so bossy now haha. This is a great list. You have a lot to look forward to :)
Of yours I haven't read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and A Clockwork Orange.ReplyDelete
I've read all the others, however.
You should definitely get onto reading The Hunger Games!
The Great Gatsby and Catcher in the Rye are both great books. They aren't that long so you should pick them up sometime. You don't have to be in high school to read them! (although they were both assignments for me they were one of the few I even bothered to read back then)ReplyDelete
I have read Twilight and Hunger Games, if only to see what the hype was about.ReplyDelete
While I don't hate them, I definitely wouldn't read them again. The time wasted was a trade-off to knowing all of the references.
fun meme! "it's students" should be "its students", though!ReplyDelete
The Hunger Games is getting to that status in blog world, isn't it? I guess after the movie it will be even MORE popular! :/ If you're interested at all you should definitely check them out before the movie releases.ReplyDelete
As for 'Anna' ... soooo lovely. I've read it 3 or 4 times, I think, because it just makes me so happy. =)
You must read The Hunger Games! It is the standard by which all other dystopians are measured, for real. I totally felt the same way about Anna there for a while. I asked on Twitter what contemp I should read, and like a bazillion people were like ANNAAAAAAA. It was scary LOL. I'm glad you're enjoying it! I also feel like I need to read Water for Elephants since everyone's been talking about it because of the movie, though it was on my list long before that.ReplyDelete
OH! And we must have gone to the same high school, because mine never assigned Catcher in the Rye either! I almost put it on my list, but decided to leave off classics because it was getting too long lol.ReplyDelete
I've never read Harry Potter! Yeah, that makes me the biggest freak ever, so don't feel so bad. I also only read half of Twilight, but stopped because I hated it. Same with Eragon. I don't always like what everyone else does...ReplyDelete
I haven't read The Hunger games either. Okay well I read the first book, and didn't quite enjoy it as much as everyone else seems to. I put Anna on my list too since everyone seems to love it.ReplyDelete
I love this! Is it ok for authors to play too? I love lists!ReplyDelete
I haven't read #4, 6, 7, 8, or 9 either. But I loved GATSBY and ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS, and the first two HUNGER GAMES books.
I haven't read numbers: 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9, either, but I loved all the rest! :) The Cather in the Rye is my all-time favorite book, besides The Greatest Success in the World. :)ReplyDelete
Thanks for doing this! This is my first time doing Top Ten Tuesday! :) I love the fact that I'm listed as number 22 in the links, because my birthday is the 22nd of February, haha. :)
This was actually a hard list to write for me, as I feel like I always read "everything" that gets good reviews right away. It definitely took me some time to come up with 10:)ReplyDelete
Aaarg! Bloomin'thing fills in your name before you get a chance to alter it and then old sausage fingers me hits enter instead of changing the link on my tablet. Not once but twice! The correct link should be http://sophiasbookblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/top-ten-books-i-feel-everyone-has-read.html . Please can you change it for me lovely Broke and Bookish folk, because I obviously shouldn't be allowed near a computer unsupervised!ReplyDelete
This was an interesting list to make because I had to keep weeding it down. There are so many books out there now that are insanely popular, and I'm so far behind most of the craze.ReplyDelete
Great Top Ten Tuesday, I haven't read The Catcher in the Rye or The Great Gatsby but am currently reading the Great Gatsby for my college class. =] I have read a Clockwork Orange and just a headsup it is a very weird read. You definitly have to read The Hunger Games asap. Water for Elephant was a goodread and I still need to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo also. =]ReplyDelete
Anyway here is my Tuesday meme post, Teaser Tueadsy. =]
I have Anna and the French Kiss on my list right now and hopefully I'm going to be reading it within the next week! I haven't read The Hunger Games either! Or Catcher in the Rye! I actually haven't read almost all of these, except I read most of the Twilight books and Lolita! Lolita... I haven't read that in years, but I was one of the rare ones that felt bad for the guy and felt like Lolita was a little slutty brat. :O If I remember correctly, it's been over 10 years since I've read it though.ReplyDelete
My Top 10 Tuesday!
I feel slightly better about ANNA and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo now :) They made my list as well. But The Hunger Games!! You NEED to read it!! Seriously, I have pushed this book on people who don't even like to read and they LOVED it as well!ReplyDelete
This is my first top ten tuesday! I haven't read most of those books either, so you are not alone!ReplyDelete
My Top Ten Tuesday
Well, at least I can see I am not alone in not having read some titles! As usual, great topic :)ReplyDelete
The hunger games is great you should try to read it, I love twilight, but it's not everyones thing :)ReplyDelete
Here's my top ten
Anna and the French Kiss is on my top ten too. Now that you're reading it already... I am soon to be alone! *sob* ha! ha!ReplyDelete
I love the Hunger Games and I've read Twilight but the rest of the books on your list are also those I haven't read yet.
I forgot Catcher in the Rye and Lolita... but I probably won't read the latter anyway!ReplyDelete
Loved my first Meme, thanks!
yes to anna and the french kiss! everyone loves that book, and stephanie is so lovely, I really want to read it too. XDReplyDelete
I've got heaps to list but many I've got but yet to read so I only listed the ten that I don't have LOLReplyDelete
I felt like my HS was the only who that didn't assign Fahrenheit 451, so I know that Great Gatsby feeling ;o) Great list! Definitely read Hunger Games. I just recently read it so it almost made this list!ReplyDelete
Mickey @ imabookshark
Oh yeah, I had more to say, lol. Catcher in the Rye doesn't do it for me. I can't stand that novel. But I also want to read Lolita!! :o) Good list!ReplyDelete
Mickey @ imabookshark
There are a lot of classics I haven't read. I feel like a failure. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is much better read. The Sweedish movie does do a pretty good job for the book, but doesnt evoke the kind of feelings the book does. And obviously you miss all the extra a movie can never pull off.ReplyDelete
This is my first time joining this meme, but now I really wish I had sooner! It was so much fun to make a list! :)ReplyDelete
You should definitely read The Hunger Games, Kelly! It's one of my favourites EVER and I think you'll really like it!
Here's my Top Ten! And you can enter my 300 Followers Giveaway if you want to! :) There are tons of awesome books to choose from!
Haha..Hunger Games was on my list too and I am embarrassed to say Harry Potter is too.ReplyDelete
My high school didn't assign The Great Gatsby or A Clockwork Orange, either. I only read them both over the last year.ReplyDelete
We have some of the same books! I know exactly what you mean about Clockwork Orange, but I forgot about that one. I was a high school made to read Gatsby, and I hated it, but think I would like it again if not forced to write a lengthy essay :PReplyDelete
I didn't read Gatsby or Catcher in the Rye until this year (my high school also failed to assign these).ReplyDelete
My school doesn't assign The Catcher in the Rye, Clockwork Orange, or The Great Gatsby either! I think the first two are banned and we just don't read The Great Gatsby.ReplyDelete
I hope you get to read all the books you want to but haven't yet! :)
Great list :) I haven't read most of those either, although I think a few (Clockwork Orange) may be a little too creepy for me.ReplyDelete
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was on my list too.ReplyDelete
Hi! Funny list, i've never read The Hunger Games too, and it feels very bad, is it?ReplyDelete
Oooooo The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo is a good one! It's so uber-popular but I have zero interest in it.ReplyDelete
I'm so glad to see Twilight on your list, too! I thought I was the only one.....ReplyDelete
The Twilight one shocked me more than The Hunger Games ones. I haven't read the Harry Potter series and I don't think I ever will; it's just not my type of book. I watch the first movie, but I don't remember much of it. Anna is AMAZING. So nice of you to finally meet St. Clair. Prepare to swoon.ReplyDelete
We all have sizeable holes in our reading I'm sure. This was a great Top Ten theme. Perhaps it will spur us on to fill the holes. I considered putting Twilight in my 10, but I really have no interest in reading it, so don't really care if everyone else has read it or not!ReplyDelete
Just wondering if we should all revisit this list a year from now and see if there are any changes?ReplyDelete
My high school didn't assign Great Gatsby or Catcher in the Rye. I only got the latter this year, which is just sad.ReplyDelete
WHY WOULD YOU READ TWILIGHT AHHHH
...and I liked Water for Elephants, but the main character is emo all the time. All the time.
Gah, read the Hunger Games! So good. Also glad you're reading Anna now. I'm not big on contemporary, but I loved that book.ReplyDelete
Your high school wasn't the only one! I haven't read The Great Gatsby, Clockwork Orange or The Catcher in the Rye either. :)ReplyDelete
Wow, there are A LOT of good books on your list that you haven't gotten to!ReplyDelete
The Hunger Games was excellent, you have to read that next! I know the Girl w/the Dragon Tattoo is supposed to be good, but I didn't really fall for the synopsis like that, not my kind of read. Anna was a good read, light and funny with a bit of romance.
OMG, how can you not have read Twilight?!?! You didn't really like it like that? It gets better with each book, Eclipse being my fav.
Anna and the French Kiss is on everyone's list. I have to read this one!ReplyDelete
My first Top Ten! So fun! The Great Gatsby was a good book, I'd probably never re-read it, but I had to for school. :)ReplyDelete
I haven't read The Hunger Games either so don't feel bad. I also haven't read Harry Potter (yes, I swear I feel like I've been living under a rock):(ReplyDelete
I hope you get a chance to read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It is fantastic.ReplyDelete
Great list! Glad to know I'm not alone.ReplyDelete
*GASP* on the Twilight confession, not even the first one! How did you manage that? Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, I went all insane and bought the entire series and read all of them in a row at top speed! I just finished Great Gatsby! :PReplyDelete
The rest feeling are mutual! Aha, so your not part of the "everyone" that had read The Hunger Games!
Thanks for hosting! This was a great topic.ReplyDelete
This is such a great idea!ReplyDelete
Yo have to read the hunger games its amazing!!!ReplyDelete
Is it bad that I kind of wish that Twilight was on my list? Really, I wish I'd never read them...ReplyDelete
I should add Anna and the French Kiss to my list, too. And some other books.ReplyDelete
Im new to TTT and I love it already. But yeah you have to read the Hunger Games..... It's a must! :)ReplyDelete
I haven't read The Hunger Games either. It is crazy that book bloggers have such huge TBR's and are not able to get to books like this.ReplyDelete
It's amazing how many times I read a popular/ highly blogger recommended book and end up disliking it or thinking it wasn't as great as the hype. Everyone has different tastes and perspectives. I wonder why we all think everyone needs to read the same books.ReplyDelete
I haven't read 3-9 either, so you're not alone there. :)ReplyDelete
I haven't read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, either. I watched the first movie, but haven't tried the book yet.ReplyDelete
Hahaha, those 3 books I haven't read because they haven't been assigned to my school also, although I don't live in America, but I plan to read Catcher in the Rye & A Clockwork Orange. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was good, but not an easy read. As for Water for Elephants, overall was good, but I don't think it deserved those rave reviews. I'm yet to read Anna & the French Kiss & yeah, I haven't read Twilight also, but I don't think I ever will. Yay for you for reading HP though ;) The Hunger Games was also good ;)ReplyDelete
I finished the first book of Twilight and started the second but I got tired and left it. It's amazing how some of my friends love it and I couldn't carry on :(ReplyDelete
I've read The catcher on the rye three times :O One of my favorites:)
i actually have a few of your books on my list.ReplyDelete
One thing i can tell you though, you should definitely read The Hunger Games. The whole trilogy is amazing!
Totally loved making this list. Great topic. :)ReplyDelete
I also made it through high school without Gatsby, or Moby Dick if you can believe that. They're both on my list. I have refused all my life to read A Clockwork Orange, though. It sounds like the psychotic sort of thing that would give me nightmares for weeks. :)
I just joined Top Ten today and I love this idea!!! I posted my ten books and I must say Im ashamed at some of them, classics I should have them read right lol.ReplyDelete
This was a tricky one. :)
I've read a couple on your list and the one I recommend most is: THE GREAT GATSBY.
A must read as far as I'm concerned. :)
Great list! Hope you end up picking some of them up eventually!ReplyDelete
We didn't do any of these at high school (Australia), but I've read most of the classics on the list.ReplyDelete
I couldn't get through more than one Twilight book, and struggled with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo--gave up after about 100 pages.
I'm reading the Great Gatsby soon, and it's perfectly alright that you haven't read Twilight. You're not missing out on much. At all.ReplyDelete
However, Catcher in the Rye is one of the best books EVER written and the Hunger Games are also fantastic! Water for Elephants is great, and Sara Gruen's other book (Ape House) is equally great.
I have a lot in common with your list! I have been meaning to read Water for Elephants for a while now.ReplyDelete
From your list I have only read The Great Gatsby (which will forever be a favorite of mine, Catcher in the Rye and the first two books of Twilight.ReplyDelete
I loved The Hunger Games. It's just such a great series. :)ReplyDelete
oops, my first link mistakenly says "sense and sensibility" but it does actually link to my top ten list. I added another link just in case this was a problem. my apologies. Great topic!ReplyDelete
I'm reading Anna and the French Kiss right now. I just finished The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest on Sunday.ReplyDelete
I'm so glad to know that there are other people who haven't read any of those either! just swap out The Hunger Games for Harry Potter and those books are probably on my list or would have beenReplyDelete
You should definitely read the Hunger Games and the Millennium Trilogy but I wouldn't bother with Twilight. You're better off having not experience it.ReplyDelete
Huh I've only read 4 of your entries! How on earth did your high school miss The Great Gatsby? I don't know if I'd have enjoyed it without a class. I wasn't assigned The Catcher in the Rye but read it for a paper somehow... The Hunger Games you will race through. I don't know much about the rest!ReplyDelete
I don't know what to say about The Hunger Games trilogy except...I really don't think you'll regret reading it. Take the plunge. :DReplyDelete
FYI - amazing top ten today. love seeing this all over the interwebs!ReplyDelete
I'm glad I found out about Top Ten Tuesday. Great post!ReplyDelete
I can't even begin to reply to these comments, it's so overwhelming! I will say that I have been thoroughly convinced that I need to read The Hunger Games...NOW. I am seriously going to try.ReplyDelete
Your school isn't the only one that didn't require the Great Gatsby! I think mine started requiring it the year I got out, so I never read that one either!ReplyDelete
Jess @ The Midnight Bookworm
Love The Hunger Games...I'm jealous that you still have your first read of it ahead of you!ReplyDelete
Some of ours over lap Kelly, good luck with your list.ReplyDelete
Also I just realised a HUGE mistake on my list, I left off the Mortal Instruments series. I keep meaning to pick them up but I get side tracked everytime.
as for the rest of my list you can find me at epiphanyrenee.blogspot.com
This is the first time I've joined Top Ten Tuesdays! Fun! :)ReplyDelete
I'm late to the party, but had to answer anyway. :) You're not the only one whose high school failed in literature: I haven't read Catcher in the Rye, either.ReplyDelete
I can't believe you haven't read Catcher in the Rye or The Great Gatsby. You must feel left out of a lot of conversations. I know how you feel, though, I think my English class was the only one that gave its students King Lear instead of Hamlet. I seem to be the only adult around who's never read Hamlet.ReplyDelete
TG, I'm not sure if it's fortunate or unfortunate that I know very few people who would ever discuss either of those books in normal conversations :\ReplyDelete
I've only read two of them. Don't worry, you're not alone.ReplyDelete
I love Top Ten Tuesday! Just wish I remembered to join in more often :-)ReplyDelete
I post in the wrong date... sorry! I love your ideas for this list! I never read Lolita too!ReplyDelete
the book thief is one i have to read for the first time. been sitting on my shelf for awhile but i just haven't gotten to it yet.ReplyDelete
This is my first time participating in this. Sorry my post went up so late.ReplyDelete
And I feel really stupid saying this, but I added my link/comment to the wrong post. Whoops. That's embarrassing. Is there a way to fix that?ReplyDelete
I'm loving your Top Ten Tuesdays, and actually trying to catch up on writing some. Its fun to reminisce about the books I loved and ponder books I've yet to read!ReplyDelete
I haven't read The Great Gatsby either - and I'm 22! I feel like that's something every kid (but me) got to read in school. WHAT KIND OF AN EDUCATION DID I HAVE?!?!ReplyDelete
I review books here: http://ohsocleverreads.blogspot.com/
