Jana's Request for Romantic Suspense Recommendations

Hi all! I went on a cruise to Mexico a few weeks ago and read Till Death by Jennifer Armentrout. LOVED IT. It was amazing, and my new favorite romantic suspense novel. I got quite a hankering for more, but I'm coming up empty. I tried a Barbara Freethy one afterwards, and DNF'd it because it was so bad. I am so unfamiliar with this genre and I've only read a handful of romantic suspense novels, even though they always end up being my favorite kind of books.

So I thought I'd take this to all of you, our ever faithful readers. I'm in desperate need of some good romantic suspense. I really only have two wishes for these recommendations:

1. No paranormal stuff. I just don't like it. lol. And this seems to be hard because all the RS novels I'm finding have paranormal elements to them.
2. No erotica. (Some sex is fine, but it needs to take a back seat to the story.)
3. (Wait, I lied.) I'm not a fan of gangs and drugs in books.

Other than that, I'm pretty open and I'm not kidding when I say that I probably have not read anything you're going to recommend to me because I'm such a newbie to this genre. So throw a TON of them at me. I will take all you have to offer! I was gifted Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard after getting recommendations from some friends on Twitter, so that's happening. I've heard it's super popular.

Anyway, help a girl out!

  1. Burn also by Linda Howard is excellent. Nora's Robert's Witness, The Liar and The Collection. Also Julie Garwood has some great ones too.

  2. I just finished Gilt Hollow by Lorie Langdon and really enjoyed it. I would also recommend Dani Pettrey particularly her newest series starting with Cold Shot.

  3. Beauty and The Wiener and Must Love Wieners by Casey Griffin. They might be classified as just being contemporary romance but both books have suspense to them. Also Hell Or High Water and Devil And The Deep by Julie Ann Walker. Any book by Katie Ruggle. You can find romantic suspense authors in this collection Way of the Warrior(https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23158405-way-of-the-warrior). There is the Deadly Ops series by Katie Reus. Finally River Road by Jayne Ann Krentz. Read the backs of her books and you will find the books you want.

  5. There is also Karen Rose but be warned. Her novels can be very intense so I would read the back. There can be intense violence.

  6. Troubleshooter series by Suzanne Brockmann. Start with book three, Over the Edge. I like the first two books but they don't grab you like the rest so read 3 first then once you are hooked go back to 1 & 2. The 19th book in the series comes out soon.

    1. Wanted to add, these are Navy Seal books and she really is the queen of these types of stories, I feel like she writes good male POV. The first few books also have a WWII secondary story and that is super interesting.

  8. Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard is one of my all time faves. I hope you enjoy it. I can also second Nora Roberts, but stick to her regular books (the ones that have been out in hard cover). Her trilogies typically have magical elements to them. My favorites of hers are The Villa and Northern Lights. They're on the older side (early 2000's), but still awesome.
