Daisy Talks About Reading Outside

So basically this looks like a little bit of heaven to me. I would sink in one of those chairs and just read, read, read all day until some friendly person reminded me that it's time to get some no doubt yummy food. I imagine things like tapas and cocktails or sangria or something juicy with banana and such...

But I digress.

What I meant to talk about is reading in lovely, sunny places. Which can either be your backyard or your balcony or this perfect little piece of the beach.
I love reading outside. I love sitting out in the sunshine and bask in the warmth and read all day long. It's my happy place. I mean, I love sitting on the couch with a cup of tea and a blanket, but there's just something about reading outside that just feels so special. Maybe because it's not all that often that I get to do it.

But stories also feel more real to me when I'm reading them outside. I'm not sure why that is, but everything feels stronger somehow and just has more of an impact. Do any of you recognize this feeling?

Also, I'm just excited that Spring is showing its pretty face again! :)

  1. I understand! A couple of years ago, I escaped the snow and darkness for a week in November to join my father and stepmother in Florida. The most difficult decision that I had to make each day was whether I wanted to lie in the sun on the balcony to read or lie in the sun on the beach to read.
In my old house, I used to sit out on the back deck in the summer reading, until either the darkness or the mosquitoes drove me inside. I suspect that the front steps in my new place will be my outdoor reading spot once the warmer weather gets here.

  4. Yes! I work in a public library that has a pretty park behind it and all summer I take my lunch and a book outside and sit on a blanket and eat and read and watch the bunnies hop by. It's my favorite thing!

  5. Yay for spring and for warmer weather! I absolutely love packing snacks and going to a park to read. I hope you enjoy some good books while basking in the sun!

  6. I live in the Boston area and we are having our first real week of Spring. I've been outside reading every day with iced tea and a snack in my space ergonomic chair. For some reason I don't like to read inside except in bed, so I get more reading done in the nicer months. I have a post coming up about how much I love reading near or on the water.

  7. Reading outside is and always has been one of my favorite things. When I was growing up, I would relish evenings spent reading on the porch on rainy nights or long summer afternoons by (or in) the pool back home in Louisiana.

Now I wait in great anticipation for the Colorado weather to cooperate so I can read in the sun. We've had a few days here and there so far - enough for me to already get sunburnt (but the book was THAT good!) - but we still have more cloudy icky mess to go before summer comes.

  8. Reading outside, to me, always sounds like a great idea until I actually do it. Then, I let outside distractions - birds, the trees, bugs, neighbors, people watching - distract me from actually reading. I'm best sitting in my sunroom where I can see the outdoors but where is a barrier that prevents me from becoming totally absorbed in other things. Of course, this usually means I end up taking a nap too...

  9. I completely understand! Although once summer rolls around I generally have to deal with frizzy hair, hayfever and eyes that are extremely sensitive in the sun. OH and I burn like bacon left in the oven for too long so I prefer to try and avoid the sun as much as possible or try to spend as little time in the sun as I can which often rules out reading outside (although I do find it relaxing). When I go on holiday to places like Turkey where I'm likely to be lying by the pool for a solid week I love to bring books that I find easy to read and that I'm not too bothered about ruining (reading by the pool is a dangerous thing) so I always have a steady supply of Nicholas Sparks' books (exclusive holiday reads - I don't read them any other time. It's weird).

    Great post!

  10. Dying for some beachside reading. The absolute best kind of reading in my opinion :)

  11. I wish I could read outside! Sadly, I live in Kansas, which is home to lots and lots of wind! Not exactly ideal for reading, even if I'm reading an ebook (all my hair will just fly in front of my face). But, I love the Spring, so maybe if I ever live somewhere else...

  12. We are finally starting to get nice weather where I live in Canada and I'm so envious off all the people outside reading when I am stuck inside studying for exams :( Can't wait to read in the sun and on the beach!

  13. It's so relaxing to read outside and to be able to breathe the fresh air and just have a nice time reading. The only thing I don't like is when the bugs start flying all around you.
