Top Ten Books We're Dying to Reread (But We Keep Reading New Books Instead)

For future Top Ten Tuesday topics & info on how to participate, click here!

This week is FREEEBIE WEEK! *jazz hands* We chose to talk about 10 books we are dying to reread but...keep putting off because NEW BOOKS WOO.

One of the perils of book blogging is that, thanks to constantly feeling obligated to keep up the flow of new reviews, it's almost impossible to squeeze in a reread when you have so many unread books on your shelf. Here are a few books that your favorite broke bloggers are dying to reread, but just haven't had a chance to yet!

Bridget's Picks

1. The Magicians - Lev Grossman. My husband, after a year-plus of me annoying him, has finally read the first book in this series. Naturally, it made me want to snatch the book out of his hands and read it again myself, but I didn't, because I'm a nice person.

2. The Ocean at the End of the Lane - Neil Gaiman. Shortly after reading this for the first time, I let a friend of mine borrow it...and I haven't seen it since. This actually isn't a bad thing, because that same friend doesn't still have it—she's passed it on to several others and I'm honestly not quite sure where it is at the moment, but everyone who has read it has loved it. But I do want it back!!

3. Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn. I actually just got this one back from my mom, who made it about 3/4 of the way through before putting it down for a year and making me tell her the ending. In the meantime, I've read her other novels at least twice each. Gone Girl is sitting on my kitchen counter and it's calling my name, but so are all the other books I got for Christmas and my birthday and at BEA...

Jamie's Picks

4. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath: This used to be one of my favorite books in high school and college and I haven't read it since! Curious to see how it holds up!!

5. On the Road by Jack Kerouac: Again, another high school/college fave book but I want to check it out again now that I'm 30 to see if I can say that it's still a fave.

6. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: To be honest, I'd love to revisit both Fangirl and Eleanor & Park because I loved them both so much and I'm just craving a reread. They are just two favorites that deserve to be reread!

7. Where She Went by Gayle Forman: I reread If I Stay last year and this year hope to reread Where She Went because it's honestly one of my favorite books ever!

Lori's Picks

8. The Secret History by Donna Tartt:  I flew through this book when I first read it!  It was a great read, but now that I know what happens, I don't know if I can read it again.  So, not only would I like to read this one again, I want to forget what I know!

9. Catch-22 by Joseph Heller: I read this one my senior year of high school and LOVED it. I've been wanting to reread it ever since. May have to make time soon.

10. Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell: I was really trying to not include this one, but the truth of the matter is that I miss this book. It was my absolute favorite, but I haven't read it since high school.

  1. Neil Gaiman is probably my most re-read author! I've read The Graveyard book so many times, and I plan to re-read Coraline. Great topic!

  2. I just read Gone With the Wind for the first time last year and I know it's one I'll want to revisit in the future. It's just one of those books that demands a reread.

  3. What an awesome top ten topic! The Secret History and The Ocean at the End of the Lane are right up there on my list of things I'd like to reread, but... there's always a but, right? For what it's worth, rereading The Secret History when you know what's going on doesn't ruin it at all - you just have a different perspective on so many scenes as you read them :)

  4. OOh nice topic! I would love to re-read some books, but there's just never any time when there are too many new books to read!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  5. I also want to read The Secret History, Donna Tartt is an amazing writer. Catch 22 is one of my favourite books ever! I put it on my TTT list this week of books I want to see made into movies (or remade in that case).

  6. I want to read The Magicians! Especially after seeing the preview for the new tv series. Are you going to watch the show?

    1. It's funny you ask because my husband was telling me last night about an article he read about the show, and what the show has already changed from the book, and I hate when shows/movies depart from the basic plot so early on so I probably won't watch it. I'm not sure I would have anyway (I don't think we even get the channel it's on) but having heard some "meh" things about it I don't really feel like I'm missing out.

Definitely read the books, though!! :)

  7. I'm also dying to re-read The Secret History...I remember loving it, but am really fuzzy on all the details!

  8. Ooo The Bell Jar is a great pick. I would love to re-read that one! It's one of my all time favorites.

  9. Agree on there never being enough time to read all of the things out there, much less reread!

I went with the books I've embarrassingly never read for my top ten, looking forward to seeing everyone's freebie week!

  10. The Ocean at the End of the Lane is simply amazing-a must read for sure!

  11. Ah, re-reading! I used to reread books so much, and even hosted a book challenge called Read Me Baby, 1 More Time the first few years I was a blogger... but then my shelves became so heavy with unread books that it takes some effort to ignore them and pick up an old favorite. It's worth it sometimes though, because well read books are like visiting the past.

  12. There are so many new good books to try, it's really hard to find time to reread.

  13. When I was a kid, I re-read constantly. Like, over and over again. It is so hard to get myself to do it now though!

I LOVE the freebie weeks, and am looking forward to getting through as many of these as I can. Wow, even in the short time I've been participating, this weekly event has really exploded. Thanks so much for hosting it.

  14. Oh my goodness I STILL haven't read The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I've been dying to read it since the day it was published. I really need to, I love Gaiman.

  15. I loved The Bell jar and The Ocean at the end of the Lane. Such great picks! I never get time to re-read things though, I always feel so guilty looking at the long list of things I've not even read once yet.

  16. This is a great topic, I'm making a note of it for the next freebie! I always struggle balancing re-reading old favorites with all the shiny new books out there.

  17. I love rereading, but don't do it nearly as much as I used to now that I run a blog and constantly have new books and arcs to read. When I was younger--and even in my early 20s--I would reread my favorites all the time. I'll still reread a favorite every once in awhile, but always feel guilty when I do. So silly. I've been meaning to read A Secret History for ages, and just ordered The Magicians from the library last night after watching the first two episodes of the new show. Great lists!

  18. Many of these would be on my list to read for the first time. I spotted FanGirl in my daughter's room the other day and said, "Man, I forgot about that one. I need to read it.

Alas, that brings me to my post for this week: Top Ten Books I Will Read This Year if it Kills Me!

    ReplyDelete
  19. At Page a Vu, we took the freebie and made it into Top 10 Children's Books we Love (since we never ever talk about kid lit). But now that I'm reading through everyone else's....I gotta say, there are some AMAZING and fun Top 10 Tues prompts coming out of this freebie. Seriously more clever than I anticipated, or than we were. :)

  20. Great lists! I haven't read any of these except Fangirl but I feel you on the rereading dilemma! I used to reread all the time and these days I don't fit it in as often as I would like to. It's hard to let go of the new book guilt! But I want to make it a priority this year. I'd love to reread The Raven Cycle again and Wuthering Heights or Pride and Prejudice. I used to read Wuthering Heights all the time but haven't in years.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm with you on Catch-22 and Gone with the Wind...but I doubt I'll ever read On the Road again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My sister is currently reading Fangirl and she LOVES it (or so it seems ...) and now I want to reread it quite badly :)

  23. I would love to reread Fangirl. It’s one of my favorite books ever.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  24. What an awesome idea for a Top Ten Tuesday! I've been whining to anyone who'll listen about how much I want to reread pretty much everything on my bookshelves. The awesome thing is that I actually have to reread some of them for uni this semester! The Ocean At The End of the Lane is the one I'm MOST excited about. I'm also really excited to have to read Gone Girl as well. Never read it before, but I've heard good things :-)

  25. Hi! I love The Bell Jar! I reread it all the time. :)

  26. I love this topic and will have to remember it for the next Freebie day. I have wanted to reread Gone with the Wind ever since I read it in college, thirty years ago. i never seem to make time for favorite rereads.

  27. I went on a Neil Gaiman buying spree a year and a half ago, but have only read one book so far. Not because I don't like his writing, though. Gone With the Wind is a book I haven't read since high school. I loved Gone Girl. Great topic!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I also find it really hard to fit in re-reads, but I hope to get in a couple this year. I need to read Ocean at the End of the Lane and Where She Went for the first time too!
