Top Ten Hyped Books We've Never Read

For future Top Ten Tuesday topics & info on how to participate, click here!

Jamie's Picks

1. An Ember in the Ashes by

2. The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling:

OKAY OKAY. I KNOW. I read the first book! YAY ME. But like it's really hard to be an adult reading THE MOST HYPED UP AND BELOVED SERIES EVER. EXPECTATIONS TO THE MOON.

3. Red Queen by

Julia's Picks

4. The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin - This is a cheap shot and I know it, but I am including it on here. This is probably the most hyped book ever outside of living through the release of Harry Potter. I don't even have a release date to look forward to, so I am just sitting here, window seat on the Hype Train.

5. Allegiant by Veronica Roth - I didn't read Insurgent either, but I can't recall the hype around that one, but I do recall the hype on this. I stayed off the internet for a bit when this came out, just because I do eventually want to read it. All I know is this was hyped up and then the fandom revolted. One day I will find out why (but I can probably guess).

Lauren's Picks

6. Grey by E.L. James - I could go on and on and on about all of E.L. James's books. I read all three 50 Shades of Grey books because all of my IRL non-bookish friends were appalled that I hadn't read them... so peer pressure and yeah... no.

7. The Mortal Instruments by

Daisy's Picks

First off, I'd like to second An Ember in the Ashes, Red Queen, Grey (though I haven't read any of the 50 Shades books) and The Mortal Instruments. And to that I add:

8. I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson: this one got a LOT of hype around BEA and I hear it's AMAZING, but it doesn't really sound like a me-book, but I did buy it, so it'll get read at some point.

9. A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin: I KNOW! (a very, very sorry to TB&TB's own Kimberly and former member Kelly for not having read this yet) I feel the pressure of needing to read this, especially with the TV show going past what I've read so far, but it's HUGE and daunting and I need to carve out a hunk of time for it. But maybe soon?

10. Matched by Ally Condie: the hype for this one was CRAZY. I do actually own the whole trilogy, but I've been putting it off because I've heard some less than stellar things about it along with all the hype and I'm a little terrified to be honest.

What hyped books have YOU not read yet??

  2. Yeah... I figured Grey would be on a lot of people's list, however, Harry Potter was shocking to see. I'm still surprised when people say they have not read that series. It's good! :)

My TTT overlaps a bit with yours too.

    1. Totally agreed. I usually don't read hyped-up books but I read Harry Potter in its heyday, and I'm still a huge fan after all these years. None of the new YA came anywhere near it yet...

  3. I haven't read any Harry Potter. I didn't finish 50 Shades. I read Divergent but none of the others. I didn't read the Hunger Games. I have the first Jodi Picoult book for me to read at home that I just picked up from the library. Sometimes, I am socially awkward when people start talking about these books that everyone should read.....

  5. I don't read a lot of hyped books at the time they are hyped books. I third An ember in the ashs and red queen. I only read the mortal instruments books between this year and last year so I could read them all.

  6. Both An Ember in the Ashes and Red Queen are on my lsit - they've been sooo hyped as of late and I just haven't gotten around to it.

Allegiant was much, much better than I would have hoped. I read the entire trilogy last month, and was a little nervous because of the hype, especially around Allegiant. I found ti surprisingly good though, and it was my favourite book of the series.

Matched I found completely awful. It has everything cliche and wrong shoved into that one book. I couldn't make it through the second book. Torturous!

  7. I need to get round to An Ember in the Ashes, too! I've been hearing mixed reactions, though...

  9. I haven't even finished A Feast For Crows, so...

I also haven't read any 50 Shades book (I'm not going to subject myself to that) and I think I read the first two of the Matched trilogy but they were so forgettable that I never cared to read the third and frankly I have no idea what happened in them.

  10. An Ember in the Ashes is also on my list. :) And oh Daisy, at least try reading I'll Give You the Sun? I absolutely loved it and I hope you will, too! :)

  11. Interesting list. I love the Harry Potter series. I wasn’t a fan of The Mortal Instruments, Divergent, or 50 Shades. I have I’ll Give You The Sun sitting on my shelf right now, but I haven’t gotten a chance to read it yet.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  12. That's quite a mix! Most of those I have read, but that doesn't mean I didn't feel like it was a waste of my time afterward. ;)

  13. Non of the above and I do not intend to read them!

  14. OMG The Winds of Winter!!!! I'm seated right there with you on the hype train! One can only hope he comes out with it soon...

  15. Jamie - I just started the Harry Potter series a couple of months ago, and I am LOVING it! It's never to late to get in on the hype I've decided :)

  16. I've read Harry Potter and Matched. I wouldn't really recommend Matched. The first book was good but the series really went downhill from there.

  17. I feel like I should read the Game of Thrones books because I loved and read multiple times the Lord of the Rings and so I will probably like it, but it just seems like a committment when I have so many other books waiting.

  18. Hi there! I'm a new follower and I'm super excited to participate!
I loved reading the Harry Potter series with my kids - they are definitely genuine Potterheads; the oldest started them in kindergarten, but I probably would have read them eventually even without the kiddos. Allegiant was kind of all over the place for me, but once you have read the first two you just have to finish it out, revolt notwithstanding. ;)

  19. An Ember in the Ashes seriously surprised me! I had heard so many great things about it, but I was worreid that it wouldn't live up to its hype.. but it definitely did! It was a major page-turner.
I couldn't seem to get into the Red Queen, however. :( That one was definitely overhyped for me.
