With the insanity that is finals week, it was pretty much impossible for one person to do a full list. So Kelly and I decided to do a collab. Here is our list of favorite characters.
From Kelly
1-The Weasley twins from the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling - I didn't necessarily like these two as much in the movies, though I'm not blaming the actors, but they are absolutely HILARIOUS in the books. They are so witty and full of life (*sad face*) that you can't help but love them
2- Brienne of Tarth from A Song of Fire and Ice series by George RR Martin - In an epic series filled with dozens and dozens of characters, Brienne has always stood out to me. She is a seemingly tough and no-nonsense warrior, but we see such great little sentimental moments with her. She is perfect.
3-Francie Nolan from A Tree Growns in Brooklyn by Betty Smith - This is my absolute favorite book of all time partially because Francie reminded me so much of myself as a child: shy, quiet, and lonely. But most of all, she loves books more than anything!
4-Jessica Darling from the Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty - Jessica Darling and I sometimes share the same brain; we're both weird, awkward, and sarcastic. I don't have a Marcus Flutie though :(
5- Liesel Meminger from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - never has a character (or a book) smashed my heart into so many pieces, but never has one made me love her so much!
From Kimberly
6-Vin from Mistborn. One of the best heroines you could ask for in a book. She's tough, funny and caring. I believe I've seen mentions of the book being made into a movie, can't wait to see who is cast in the role of Vin. Though it makes me both nervous and excited. Nothing worse than seeing a favorite character miscast.
7-Cinna from The Hunger Games. I adored him. He was so kind and sweet. He worked so hard to help Katniss and he truly believed in her and gave her a lot of encouragement. He wasn't as caught up in the world of the Capitol as everyone else was. I loved his humble gentleness.
8- Sherlock Holmes. Okay okay. First of all, I read the series and loved the character long before BBC's 'Sherlock' came around. However......their portrayal of Holmes didn't exactly hurt. ;) I fell in love with the character of Sherlock Holmes long ago, at about the age of 3 when I watched The Great Mouse Detective over and over again. Since then I've adored the character. The intelligence, the quirkiness, the total disregard for what would normally be considered 'proper'.
9-Professor McGonagall from (do I really need to say?) the Harry Potter series. She's strict, but when it comes down to it she shows just how much she cares about her students. Her desperation to defeat Slytherin in Quidditch cracks me up. I loved the bond that she and Harry had. Her sense of humor too, though it wasn't always seen. Remember when Ron and Harry flew the car into the Whomping Willow? Stern as she was, she smiled when the boys asked if they really had to loose house points since term hadn't started. : )
10- Lee Scoresby from the His Dark Materials Trilogy. I loved his humor, his determination, the way he cared for Lyra. Remember what I said about casting for your favorite characters? Well his was perfect in the movie. Sam Elliot was so perfect in the role.
I love the Weasley twins! And Cinna! And Sherlock Holmes except I'm totally lame and haven't read the original series yet, whoops - I probably ought to read it soon, huh?
ReplyDeleteYes yes! You should read Sherlock Holmes! They're great stories.
DeleteLove this list - and hee, I cracked such a smile at the Great Mouse Detective mention! Love Sherlock Holmes, I can't believe I didn't include him in my list (I think because I haven't actually read any of the books -- yet). And the BBC adaptation is such fun!
ReplyDeletehaha, I just had to mention it, it helps explain my love for the stories. Plus, it's one of the more underrated Disney's. I LOVE the BBC adaptation!
DeleteI had Liesel Meminger on my list too!! I love her, even though/because she made me cry so much!
ReplyDeleteLove all these picks. I limited myself to female characters, but so many of these others you've picked are great! And why didn't I think of Prof McGonagall? I did mention Hermoine, but the teachers often go unsung in the HP series.
I didn't think of Professor McGonagall at first, I was thinking of the books and trying to think of who I could say was my favorite, and then the image of Maggie Smith came to mind and I HAD to include McGonagall. Totally agree about the teachers going unsung, they need more attention!
DeleteI totally included the Weasley twins, too! They were okay in the movies, but I adored them in the books. I almost chose Liesel but switched it out for Death instead just because I don't think a narrator has ever stuck with me like it did in that book. And I love Francie Nolan - I can't believe I forgot her!
ReplyDeleteI loved Professor McGonagall, too, and I think Maggie Smith made me love her even more. I love when that happens!
Same thing happened to me! Maggie Smith was so amazing in the role! "I've always wanted to use that spell!"
DeleteThe Weasley twins!!! Yes! I couldn't pick just one from HP, so I really like your choice :-) I almost had Francie Nolan on my list from ATGiB, but since I"ve been pimping the book pretty hard lately I thought I'd give it a break for one week :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat list!!
Cinna! And aww, the Weasley twins! I really wanted to include a Harry Potter character in mine, but there wasn't enough space! I don't think I'd be able to just pick one from that series though. I'd have to make a sublist of Top Ten Characters From Harry Potter, hahaha.
ReplyDeleteFrancie Nolan is a favourite character of mine too! And A Tree Grows In Brooklyn an all time favourite!!! :)
ReplyDeleteNice choice with Brienne! I chose Tyrion though. Tyrion is A-MAZ-ING. Love him. :D
ReplyDeleteHe would've been my second choice from that series..with Arya as a third I think. He always has the best lines :)
DeleteI adore the Weasley Twins! I'm still not over Fred...
ReplyDeleteFabulous list!
My Top Ten
Great list, although I don't know all of these. I said on my post that I'm willing to bet that every list will have a Hunger Games character, and I think I'm going to add Harry Potter to that bet. I had them too. Professor McGonagall was ah-mazing!
ReplyDeleteThe Weasley twins are such a great pick; as with Prof. McGonagall, so kick-ass. Jessica Darling is my #1 this week, couldn't have it any other way.
ReplyDeleteLove this week's topic. So great to read people's choices!
Ooh, I don't know some of these characters. I particularly like the sound of Jessica Darling - "weird, awkward, and sarcastic". :-)
ReplyDeleteI love Vin from Mistborn, I didn't know there could be a movie!! That would be incredible.
ReplyDeleteI had an impossible time picking my favorite Harry Potter character but I agree, the twins always have some of my favorite bits of dialogue and I can only hope that I can be an awesome of a teacher as McGonagall some day!
Yay! Another Mistborn fan!
DeleteOh, I forgot about Professor McGonagall -- coolest teacher ever! And Jessica Darling... should have had her on my list too!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks Kimberly and Kelly! I think this week's top ten list was the toughest I've done so far! The Weasley twins also made it to my list! But I completely forgot about professor McGonagall! I have a feelin I'm going to realise I've forgotten so many characters when I check out other peoples lists!
ReplyDeleteGood ones...now I have to figure mine out!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time linking up, such a fun theme! Cinna made my list too :)

Oh, Kimberly, I would have been so easy to take your half of the list. As it was, I ended up with three of them (and one of Kelly's), but I was afraid how close our tastes are!
ReplyDeletehaha, gotta love it when you find another reader who has such similar tastes!
DeleteLeisel and Sherlock! Two of the best characters of all time! I love your list.
ReplyDeleteMine,
My TTT!
Happy Tuesday everyone! Great selection!Sherlock Holmes is a beloved character as always!
ReplyDeleteHere is mine Top Ten Tuesday!
Some Good ones here , I was always a Marcus Flutie girl in the Jessica Darling Series and Sherlock Holmes - How could I forget him.

Ditto on the Weasley twins!! Love them. I was so sad that they left so much of their awesomeness out of the movies...especially the swamp! Cinna is a great one too but Lee from His Dark Materials is awesome!! Good one! Check out our Top 10 this week! Loved doing this list! Hard 2 choose though!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Weasley twins - probably more so than I like Ron (and a lot more than I like Harry!) x
ReplyDeleteCinna is such a good answer!! Who doesn't love him? ;)
ReplyDeleteI've yet to find anyone who dislikes him. He's amazing like that. :)
DeleteAwesome list! I had definitely forgotten about some of those. Let's face it: it's tough to come up with 10 because there are too many out there...and sometimes we forget others!
ReplyDeleteWeasely twins YES they are by far the best. Excellent choice. I like the idea that supporting characters count on this list, too.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to limit myself to one character per book/series, so McGonagall battled it out with Hermione, but Hermione won overall, even though McGonagall is so bamf and everything that I want to be.
ReplyDeleteThe Weasley Twins and McGonagall FTW!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I especially like Cinna and the Weasley twins!
ReplyDeleteI love your list!!! Jessica Darling! Love her.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't choose just one character from Harry Potter...so I chose all of them! I went with Rudy over Liesel, although it was definitely a close call between the two of them!
ReplyDeleteThe Weasley twins were a fun. :) I like Sherlock Holmes as well. Same goes for Lee Scoresby. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the Weasly twins and Professor McGonagall from HP! I went with Snape and Hermione for mine but it is really hard to pick my favorite. I find it Ironic that Harry isn't even my top 5 (maybe even 10) for favorite HP characters! I also love Cinna but I think Tyrion is my favorite (so far) in Game of Thrones. Loved the topic this week!
ReplyDeleteBoth lists are brilliant. I really enjoyed reading them, to see who you'd picked and why. Totally agree that the Weasley twins, McGonagall and Lee Scoresby are awesome. I want to add Sherlock is too, but I haven't read any of the books so I better not - but the BBC Sherlock is awesome and that has to count, right? ;)
ReplyDeletehaha, yes. BBC Sherlock definitely counts! Especially since the creators are such Conan Doyle fanboys that the show sticks really close to the original stories.
DeleteI can't add my name to the list (that list widget is blocked where I work), but I have posted my contribution. Here it is. I will add my name as soon as I can.
ReplyDeleteI put my name twice cause I am an idiot... it`s my first time doing a TTT ..great choice this week ..
ReplyDeleteThat is a really great list. I love the Weasley twins, McGonagall, and Cinna!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Weasley Twins and Professor McGonagall. So many great characters from that series, it was hard to pick a favorite!
ReplyDeleteI think Cinna is a fantastic character too and I even liked Lenny Kravitz's portrayal in the movie. Great lists!
Oh, Cinna!! Yes, I forgot. I picked Peeta but I do adore Cinna too ... !
ReplyDeleteJESSICA DARLING! I love her! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you all for hosting :)
ReplyDeleteI think with the movie Weasley twins that they weren't done justice. They were very dialed down :(
I love Cinna AND Professor McGonagoll - great choices!
That was so much fun! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Top Ten Tuesday!
Ah, yes. Those bullying weasley twins. how could i forget about them? i rather adore them, too, against my own better judgment.
ReplyDeleteLoved the twins and McGonagall! I also have a soft spot for Cinna...so refreshing in the chaotic world of the Capitol. Great list!

Oh, yes! Cinna is a good choice. I loved him in the book, and since I am a HUGE Lenny Kravitz fan I did swoon a little at the movie too. Thanks for hosting us. :)
ReplyDeleteI was actually a little worried when I saw the casting, I'd never even heard of Lenny Kravitz. And then I started seeing some of the trailers and fell in love with his portrayal of the character.
DeleteLove your choices, especially the Weasley twins, McGonagall, and Cinna. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are SO right about the Book Thief! I didn't think I'd EVER stop crying at the end. I had listened to the audiobook, so I'm sure passing drivers thought "what the heck is wrong with that girl?" Oh, nothing... just having my heart shattered by a book during rush hour.
ReplyDeleteOH, I love your top ten! The Weasley twins are such a great choice. They really made the books so entertaining. I wish their part in the movie would have been more. I also love Cinna! It makes me want to go back and change my Top Ten. I'm sticking with them though!
ReplyDeleteKimberly, great picks! I could have done a whole list from Harry Potter and "His Dark Materials" - Mrs. Coulter got a shout-out for being so awesomely complex. And Cinna, aww...
ReplyDeleteThanks! I probably could have done a whole list from those books as well... so many characters to love!
DeleteDon't know if you accept TTT subject suggestions, but...Maybe top 10 worst movies based on a book.
ReplyDeleteI love me some Weasley twins, but Molly Weasley beat them out to go on my list!
ReplyDeleteI love the Weasley twins!!!! Ginny is on my list! And, I so need to read The Book Thief. That's the second time someone has mentioned it to me this week!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never read any of these except Harry Potter. But have been meaning to read the Harry Potter series. Have heard some great reviews. My Step Son loves it. He has all the books here at our house. Maybe I will start them soon.

Top Ten Tuesday
Have never heard of any of these except Harry Potter. Made a mistake. Sorry.
DeleteOh goodness. Yes. Read Harry Potter! It's so wonderful.
DeleteI love that you chose Cinna from the Hunger Games. He almost made my list. Almost.
ReplyDeleteI also quite like the Weasley twins, though my favourite is Hermione.
Great list this week. Good luck with the rest of finals!
I almost forgot about the Weasley twins! I know, I should hang my head in shame.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, I bet mostly everyone has at least a hunger games character on their list!!! I've got Peete on mine^-^
ReplyDeleteBrienne is amazing! Along with Arya Stark, she's my favorite female character from the series.
ReplyDeleteI love it that you picked the Weasley twins and Cinna. I didn't include them on my list, but they definitely should have gotten a spot.
ReplyDeleteJJ iReads
Check out my Top Ten Picks This Week
Sherlock Holmes very nearly made my list, in fact he was probably #11 (sorry Sherlock!). And Brienne is starting to become one of my favourites in ASOIAF, I'm reading book 4 at the moment and her character is really starting to come through, I guess because she gets her own chapters now. Great topic!
ReplyDeleteGotta love the JK Rowling characters. :)
ReplyDeleteProfessor McGonagall was an awesome choice. Love your lists) :)
ReplyDeletethat was a great list of characters. Cinna was one of my favorite characters from the hunger games as well. kaye—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteThe Book Thief was the book I got to hand out last night for World Book Night. How ironic that Liesel popped up on your list!
ReplyDeleteWait wait wait. You got to hand out books for World Book Night?! I am SO envious! That must have been amazing!
DeleteGreat list! I especially like the Weasley twins and Lee Scoresby. My list skewed children's / YA / detective novel / classic, and when I was done I noticed only three men made the list. So, it's fun to see some more great ones!
ReplyDeleteFab list! I limited mine to YA/MG/kids' characters; if I'd done characters from adult books Sherlock would definitely have been it there. Mine is here if you'd like to take a look.
ReplyDeleteI like that this let's you think about characters you love, even if the book they are in isn't your favorite. I vote top ten characters you love to hate next week!
ReplyDeleteArgh! Sorry, my original link was broken because I left a letter out. Apologies.
ReplyDeleteCinna made my list also. Mine is more of a top 6! Great list :)
ReplyDeleteI only had a top 9 this time... I love that you have the Weasley twins as some of your favorites =). They were incredibly awesome =)
ReplyDeleteFred & George :D
ReplyDeletehttp://thedailyprophecy.blogspot.com/2012/04/top-10-tuesday-8.html
Gotta love Cinna! I almost put him on my list.
ReplyDeleteDT from Dead Trees and Silver Screens
I love that you have Vin from Mistborn in there! I loved her character. So complex, so brave! And I love that you listed Lee Scoresby, too. These are both characters that were fantastic but not "obvious" top tens. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Love finding other Mistborn fans, she's pretty fantastic, isn't she? And Lee Scoresby... I think I need to reread that series, yet again. lol. The audio book is wonderful.
DeleteI absolutely adore Jessica Darling--She's just so darn hilarious!
ReplyDeleteAnd Sherlock!!!! Although, I must admit I kind of like the series more than the books--but only because of the fabulous Benedict Cumberbatch!
Here are my Top Ten Tuesday picks
Benedict Cumberbatch... yum-*cough* I mean yes!;) He's fantastic in that role!
Delete~ :( I only made it to the top five - but its a start by all means. :)
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun one, I didn't expect it to be so hard to think of ten. Completely agree about Sam Elliot being the perfect Lee Scoresby.
ReplyDeleteI know, wasn't he amazing? I smile every time I watch the movie and I see him.
DeleteLee Scoreby is such a great character. I always wanted Pullman to write a companion book about his and Iorek Byrnison's adventures before The Golden Compass. Sam Elliot was a perfect choice.
DeleteThis was a fun one, I didn't expect it to be so hard to think of ten. Completely agree about Sam Elliot being the perfect Lee Scoresby.
ReplyDeleteMy first Top Ten Tuesday! I had a lot of fun putting my list together! Huge fan of the Weasley twins, but Ron's my list maker.
ReplyDeleteI really wish that we would have got more of Cinna's backstory. I really liked him, too!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agreeing with The Weasley Twins and Leisel!
ReplyDeleteThis one was fun! Jessica Darling is also on my list :)
ReplyDeleteThis is my first Top Ten Tuesday! I'm excited to join this family. :D It was a lot of fun to put this list together.
ReplyDeleteFinally... Participating!
ReplyDeleteIt's also my first Top Ten Tuesday! Yay!
Love this list idea! So great to see all the different bloggers' twist on it, as always. :)
ReplyDeleteParticipating! It's also our first post into the Top Ten Tuesday Meme! I like looking through everyone else's lists! Was it as hard for you to choose your favourite characters as it was for me? I nearly cried having to choose haha. :)
ReplyDelete~Sam
Typing up the list didn't take much time, it was choosing who to put on the list that was hard! I almost felt guilty when I had to leave a character off of the list!
DeleteIt's my first TTT and it made my day to get some extra comments on my blog and to click around and see who else participated. Looking forward to next week!
ReplyDeleteTried Top Ten Tuesday for the first time. It sure was hard but also lots of fun. I also enjoy looking at the list of other bloggers like me.
ReplyDeleteProfessor McGonagal! Hehe yes xD
ReplyDeleteP.S. I nominated you for a blogger award http://reviewingwhatimreading.blogspot.com/2012/04/blogger-award-2.html
I just love the Top Ten Tuesdays!
ReplyDeleteThis was my first Top Ten Tuesday! I had a lot of fun thinking up my list!
