Kimberly wants to know: if you could read any book for the first time again, what would you pick?

If you could go back and read any book/series for the first time again, what would you pick?

This was a Top Ten Tuesday topic back in 2011, so it will seem familiar, however, I was dying to talk about it and see what others would say.

For me, my automatic reaction is, and will most likely always be: Harry Potter.

But this got  me thinking about other books/series that really affected me. What other books would I want to experience again?

The first one that came to mind is the Fire and Thorns series. I ADORE those books, and have read the series twice. However, reading it for the first time was magical. I wish I could recapture that feeling!

The next one I thought of was The Book Thief. Oh, that book. I have suggested it to everyone I can possibly think of. I remember getting the chills the first time I picked it up and was introduced to Death's unique narrative. The storytelling is beautiful. Heartbreaking, but wonderful.

So You Want to Be a Wizard. This is the series that introduced me to the wonderful quote “Reading one book is like eating just one potato chip.” I immediately identified with the characters and fell head over heels in love with the story. I was 12 when I first read it, I'd love to experience that feeling of delight I had when I read it.

Those books were the ones that stuck out to me the most, though there are others. What about you? What would you pick?? Please, share in the comments below!

  3. I second Harry Potter. Also, as these are my two favorites, Pride and Prejudice and The Lord of the Rings. I read both of those when I was very young, ten for P&P I think and seven for LOTR so I don't think I fully appreciate them then as I would now reading them for the first time.

  4. My first instinct is also Harry Potter. I would love to read The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers again for the first time, it's such a bizarre book but it's so charming.

  5. This is such a good question! I think maybe A Walk to Remember (nothing like good hysterical crying when you find out the ending) or maybe the Divergent books ( at least now I have the Insurgent movie to look forward to!) <3 Bee @ Bee Reads Books

  7. I love this question. I wish I could read All The Bright Places and I'll Meet You There for the first time again. After I finished reading them, I just wanted to read them again and I connected so much to the characters in both books.

  8. Jurassic Park. Read it in fifth grade and it has been my favorite novel ever since....If I could read it for the first time at my current age I might have gotten chaos theory way earlier lol

  9. My first thought was Harry Potter. I can remember the friend who suggested I read this book that had just been published in England. She said that it would be published here, but you could only order it from a British bookstore at that time. And that's what I did. My copies of the first 3 books are the UK editions. I read "the philosopher's stone" (which is the British title) and thought, now here is a book and this lady is going to go far. Could have never dreamed what would come both in the books and for J.K. Rowling. Good question.

  10. Let's see...any and every Harry Potter book written. I loved those books! Also a few Jane Austin classics...Pride and Prejudice is my favorite of them all. I loved Elizabeth and how spunky she was!

  11. The Lord of The Flies because I had to read that in English class as an assignment so I wasn't thrilled at being told what to read and I think it would be nice to of read the Lux Series all in one go instead of waiting for my turn on the waiting list after months in between books.

  12. I would probably first say Harry Potter as well. Then it would likely be the Green Rider series by Kristen Britain. I love those books so much. After that I would have to say A College of Magics by Caroline Stevermer and City of Masks by Mary Hoffman.
This is a great question to think about.

  13. Definitely would have to be the Vampire Academy series and then Throne of Glass. They both have such strong female protagonists that make me want to be sassy and stand up for myself. I love both them so much!

  14. I would probably have to say the Hunger Games series. I first read them when I really started getting into reading again after a 4-5 year slump so they were pretty much what reintroduced me to the YA genre (which had seemingly changed a lot since I had been a highschooler.) I absolutely love Katniss and Haymitch is also a favorite character of mine. I love their relationship in the books.

  15. The Raven Boys Cycle. I want to reread that for the first time every week of the rest of my life.

  16. Sea of Tranquility for sure. This is one of my favorite books and it would be awesome to read it again for the first time. :)

  17. Harry Potter for me. I had barely lifted a book in ten years and then I was told to read Harry Potter. When I did, it reawakened my love of books and I've never looked back...I'd love to recapture that moment again!

  18. Hands down it's Anna Karenina for me! I fell in love with this book immediately and read it in a flash! I loved every word and do plan to reread it soon!

  19. I would also pick Harry Potter. I read the first book a few months after it was published and had no way of knowing how much I would fall in love with that world. It would be amazing to experience that again! I'd also like to read Wuthering Heights again for the first time. I don't know why but that book has a hold on me. I've read it 6 times and it's one of my favorites.

  20. I feel like Harry Potter is just a given at this point. The most recent read I can think of that I would LOVE to read again for the first time is Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld. It was just a thrilling ride.
I'd also say The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker. I distinctly remember closing the back cover and wanting to start re-reading immediately.

  21. I completely agree about Harry Potter and The Book Thief! I listened to the audiobook version of The Book Thief and it was so so so so so amazing. The narrator has just the smallest hint of a German accent and he does all the characters' voices in a beautiful and warm way. ahhhhhhh. Maybe if you listened to it, it would be like reading it again for the first time?

  22. Definitely A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, o Kill a Mockingbird, and 'Night Mother.

  23. I'll Give You The Sun. Harry Potter.

  24. All three books by Donna Tartt, especially The Secret History. I am looking forward to discovering Harry Potter with my daughter (...who's still reluctant to let me read it to her, because she thinks it's too scary *g*).

  25. There are just so many amazing books out there, and some I don't think I appreciated when I was getting into it for the first time. I would definitely want to read Gone by Michael Grant again for the first time, and maybe the Percy Jackson series as well :3
