Top Ten Authors We Own The Most Books Of

For future Top Ten Tuesday topics & info on how to participate, click here!

Jamie owns:

*I realized in doing this that I don't own that many books of the same author!*

7 Megan McCafferty books -- I own the whole Jessica Darling series though at the moment my sister has a couple of those books plus Bumped and Thumped.

6 Jodi Picoult books -Hilarious because I've never read a single JP book! Someone gave me all of them except one which I picked up at a used book sale. (Have you read her? Where to start?)

Daisy owns:

16 J.K. Rowling books -- I own the whole Harry Potter series in English as well as in Dutch, The Casual Vacancy and The Cuckoo's Calling.

11 Jill Mansell books -- Jill Mansell is an insta-buy author for me, I love her books!

Julia owns:

21 Eloisa James books - I don't even know how I have so many! I have all of her series books, so there is 7 in the Desperate Duchessess, 4 in the Essex Sisters, all her fairy tale retellings and a bunch of short ebooks brings that total so high. But what can I say? I love her books!

18  Sherrilyn Kenyon, Johanna Lindsey and Julia Quinn books - So I had a tie for second according to Goodreads, and these numbers make a lot of sense. Kenyon has all of her Dark-Hunter books. I must have gotten to 16 before stopping (I know I have two of her non-DH series). There is way over 20 books in that series now, I just stopped buying them. With Johanna Lindsey, I started collecting her Mallory novels back when I just started to get into reading romance, so there are 11 or so of those. Then there are all the one off's of hers I have. I would go to library sales as a teen and pick up anything with her name on it, so this makes sense. Finally Julia Quinn, whose books I buy instantly for the most part. This one would be higher I think if my sister didn't take over the reigns in buying the most recent series. She's a romance author who I know is going to make me laugh. The 18 books of hers that I own are some of my favorites.

Tahleen owns:

11 Bill Bryson books -- A Walk in the Woods, At Home, The Mother Tongue, The Lost Continent, and Made in America are all the ones I own in print, while Shakespeare: The World as Stage, Notes from  Small Island, Neither Here Nor There, I'm a Stranger Here Myself, The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid, and One Summer: America, 1927 are all the ones I own on audio CD. I am a big big fan. Love.

4 John Green books -- 5 if you count my two copies of Paper Towns, one in print and one on audio. The only one I don't have, actually, is Looking for Alaska, which I've read anyway. Oh, and I guess Let It Snow, which was written with Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle, and is also adorable.

Kimberly says:

9 Mary Higgins Clark books
7 Michael Crichton books

What are author's do you own the most books of? Also, I'd love to hear if you think you have the MOST of one author! Anyone have over Julia's 21??

  1. I have 42 of one author and 37 of another, those are my highest numbers!

  2. I've got 40, all in one series ;-)

Jamie, you should start with My Sister's Keeper or The Storyteller. Those are my two favorites of hers.

    1. What series??

And thank you! I know I have My Sister's Keeper!

  3. I was surprised when I looked around that I only own one of Bill Bryson's books.

  4. I've got 42, 35 and 22 as my highest numbers!

  5. Jamie, I'd start with The Pact. Still the best of Jodi Picoult's books, in my opinion. I have 30+ Diana Gabaldon books on my shelves!

  6. Can't believe I forgot the Harry Potter books!
    Lynn :D

  7. I didn't write a post but I own 22 books by Jim Butcher (Dresden Files & Codex Alera series), 19 books by Nalini Singh (Psy-Changeling & Guild Hunter series) and 16 books by Lorelei James (Blacktop Cowboys, Mastered & Rough Riders series)

    1. Forgot to say I loved the Jessica Darling series.

  8. Since I'm at work I'll have to list them off the top of my head (I'm not making a blog post this time): Georgette Heyer, Terry Pratchett, René Goscinny, Jón Árnason, Piers Anthony, J.D. Robb, Ngaio Marsh, Gerald Durrell, James Herriott, Jennifer Crusie.

  9. My highest number is 74 (Mercedes Lackey) -- including various books she co-wrote, and a couple of anthologies of her stories. I was a mad fan when I was younger, and she is, um, prolific.

    1. Wow 74!! I think you are the highest I've seen!

  10. Daisy - are you Dutch too? :D

I own the first two Harry Potters in Italian because I used to study the language. Now that I'm planning on learning German, I'm thinking about getting those in German as well.

    1. YES! :) It's a great idea to help learn another language by reading Harry Potter in it!

    3. Hellooo fellow Dutchie! Haha, I used to sit there on my couch, Italian version in my left hand and the English version in the other.

  11. I don't own any of my books in other languages, but that is a brilliant idea. Double your pleasure, double your fun, double the degree to which my roommate wants to kill me for taking up so much room with my books....LOL

  12. Jodi Picoult was on my list too! This was such a fun meme and told me some interesting things about my bookshelf!

I thought the same thing, Sarah! Although I haven't been a serious Romance reader in years, my list was still 50% Romance authors. Which says a lot about how people read Romance!

      Delete
  13. I'm afraid I crushed Julia's 21. :) 45+ Agatha Christie books over here!

    ReplyDelete
  14. +JMJ+

Julia Quinn made my list, too. =) As always, thanks for hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jodi Picoult's on mine. I first started her with PLAIN TRUTH, mostly because I have a fascination with the Amish and this had some psychological elements in it. It all depends on what you like. She's mostly all about courtroom cases, tackling the latest hot topic issues. She's got marriage custody and lesbians, Aspergers, medical transplants, criminal donors, school shootings...She's amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well, I can't beat Julia's 21, but I was surprised to see that I own 15 books by two authors - Jane Green & Sophie Kinsella - sheesh! I, too, have all of the J.K. Rowling books on my list and I can appreciate Kimberly's Mary Higgins Clark collection; I've had lots of those, as well! Great list ladies, as usual, and thank you for hosting this wonderful link up! Oh, Jaime...you should definitely read some of those Jodi Picoult books!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I've got 60+ Agatha Christie books, though most of them were bought years ago by my mum. The most books that are allllll mine are 52 books by Terry Pratchett.

    ReplyDelete
  18. J.K. Rowling made my list, too! And I own *at least* 20 Garth Nix books, if not more (I can't visualize my shelves exactly...).

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have way more than 21 of Dean Koontz, and probably Stephen King as well. Definitely V.C. Andrews, although technically they aren't all written by her, or probably even the same author if we're honest.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 54 (63 if you count duplicates): I have 47 Mercedes Lackey hardcovers, 1 trade paperback, and at least 6 or 7 mass market paperbacks (probably a few more, but they're down in the basement and I don't have time to check.) So that's at least 54 physical books. Some of the hardcovers are 2 or 3 titles in one, so if you're going by titles rather than volumes, I've got at least 59 by Lackey (and probably a few more.) Oh, and I didn't count the 9 I have duplicated in e-book, which would bring the actual books (not titles) to 63.

My Agatha Christie collection probably rivals or surpasses that if you go by titles, but there are fewer physical books because I've got a lot of the 3-in-1 volumes of her works.

    1. P.S. This was a really fun TTT! I had no idea I had collected so many by some of my favorite authors. I see them on the shelves, but I'd never done a count before. :-)

      Delete
    2. I had the same reaction! I was sitting here thinking I don't even think that any of the authors I reaaaaally read have written that many books! But then I remembered Brian Jacques, and even then I only have 9 of his 22 Redwall books. Yeesh.

  21. 27 of Janet Evanovich. Love her Stepahnie Plum series.

  22. Making this list made me re-evaluate my life. I consider myself a fantasy reader but own the most books by Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb (which is a pseudonym for Nora Roberts).

Apparently I need to question my whole identity and/or change my reading habits for awhile, but it was a fun list to make.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I might have had more than 21 of The Baby-Sitters Club books at one point. Does that count?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm with you on J.K. Rowling and Bill Bryson. Great topic this week!

    ReplyDelete
  25. oh I just thought of another Julia Quinn book I own in a foreign language... So she's probably 19. This was a fun topic this week.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have some Mary Higgins Clark books.

This was fun trying to figure out :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I totally forgot about my Harry Potter collection. I own both the UK and the US editions, which makes for more of J. K. Rowling's books than Michael Scott's. Alas.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm curious to know if anyone else uses a service like LibraryThing or Good Reads, and used that to tabulate their inventory? That was honestly the only way I could do it. My library's a mess!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I exported my GR list and used excel magic to group them by author, and if the shelf column contained one of my owned shelf names (i have one for ebooks and one for paper books) display it. Then I counted by hand based on ones that looked longish haha

  29. I think 5 or 6 is the most I have from one author. This is totally explained on my blog.

I would start with My Sister's Keeper, The Pact, Nineteen Minutes, or Plain Truth for Jodi Picoult books.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Megan McCafferty and Jodi Picoult made my "Honorable Mentions." I have actually only read two Jodi Picoult books. Plain Truth is pretty good. It looks at an Amish community, which I always find interesting, but I do not recommend The Pact. That book scarred me for life!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow some people's numbers are amazing! 42! 26! Crazy! The most of one author I own is 10 (Diana Gabaldon), and I thought that was a lot! I think what surprised me the most when doing this was that the number of books I own of one particular author doesn't necessarily equal favourite author.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The same authors have popped up on a lot of different book blogs doing this theme! Jodi Picoult, JK Rowling, etc. Now those are some authors that I guess I need to start studying ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have 23 Jodi Picoult's. Jamie most people start with My Sister's Keeper, but Handle With Care is my favourite. Or you could start with one of her kindle shorts.

Also lots of J.K Rowling, 12 of those.Lots of Jasper Fforde, and lots of Angie Sage

    ReplyDelete
  34. Agh, I think the link-up closed just a few hours ago! Well, anyway, here's my post: http://musingsfromnevillesnavel.wordpress.com/2014/08/03/behold-my-puny-bookish-collections/

  35. I just have to answer to your question! I have over 60 Stephen King books, all that are translated into Finnish (except Kirjoittamisesta, that is On Writing in English) including novels, short story collections and two graphic novels, and maybe 4 of his books in english. I guess you can guess my favourite author ;)
