For the future Top Ten schedule & how to participate go HERE!
This week we are talking about the words in a summary or topics alluded to that automatically make us pick up a book! We've decided to do a collab post this time!
Jana's Picks:
Italy
I have an obsession with Italy, books set in Italy, Italian characters, etc. I went on a huge vacation there last year, and just fell in love. If a book can give me a small piece of that back, I'm all over it.
Cruise
Books set on a cruise ship are also MY FAVE. I love cruising, and go on a cruise every year. I'm kind of weird when it comes to themed reads, and always want to read a cruise book while on board. If you have cruise book recs, please let me know!
Kimberly's Picks
Snarky
Love a character that has a snarky sense of humor.Inquisitive
Can anyone resist a character that is curious?Quirky
I'm quirky, I like my books being quirky, a fun quirky character is irresistible. Luna Lovegood anyone?Jen's Picks
"road-trip", "travel" and "wanderlust"
These 3 words automatically catch my attention. I love all things travel related, especially if it is an overseas adventure!
And if a book is referred to as "coming of age" or "contemporary" I'll pick it and at least read the back cover to see if I'd be interested in it.
Kelly's Picks
The words "time travel" or "reincarnation" will always catch my attention! Both ideas are fascinating to me and I love discovering different ways authors can play with and flesh out all of the possibilities.
I love music and am immediately drawn to books focusing on the subject. It can either be a book where songs are sort of a backdrop, such as Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, or a biography of a favorite musician/band.
Bridget's Picks:
If I see the words "thriller" or "fast-paced" anywhere in the summary/on the cover, I'll at least strongly consider picking up the book.
Tahleen's Picks
Most books that are set in Hawaii will get my attention. Or books set in the Southwest United States. I like a good road trip novel too. (Apparently I'm not a fan of reading books set in my part of the country.)
I feel like "road trip" is one of the most popular ones, haha. Everyone loves a good road trip, apparently!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Italy-definitely! Snarky- I love this one! I enjoyed compiling this one. Words are powerful. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading,
Rebecca @ The Key to the Gate
Do you have any good cruise ship recs? I've always wanted to read some, but other than The Baby-Sitters Super-Special ("Baby-Sitters Aboard" I think?) I haven't been able to find any.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun top 10. I'm still thinking of the last 2 words for mine.
Maria, I LOVED Girl at Sea by Maureen Johnson. It's set on a yacht, rather than a cruise ship, but it has the same feel. LOVE it. Also, Decked with Holly by Marni Bates takes place on a cruise to Mexico during Christmas break. It's adorable!
DeleteI don't think I've ever read a book on a Cruise, but I would pick it up for sure!
ReplyDeleteSnarky is a good one!
yes... ROAD TRIP. it's hard for a book that centers around a road trip to be bad!
ReplyDeleteThis was such a fun topic!!
ReplyDeleteThis was such a fun topic!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bridget - thriller and fast-paced will definitely grab my attention. I can't deal with a slow book.
ReplyDeleteTime travel books are always lots of fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat topic this week ladies.
Tahleen, have you read Molokai'i? It's my favorite Hawaiian book. I'm reading Hives in Paradise next.
ReplyDeleteRoad trips and awesome faraway places was on my list too! And I always go after quirky characters as well. I don't think I've ever read a book about a cruise before. That sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteAimee @ Penmanship Smitten | My TTT
I love music, but I don't know that much about it, so music-focused books are a bit hit-and-miss with me - like so many of the references in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist went straight over my head, but then other books, where the main characters are in a band and writing their own lyrics and discussing covers and stuff, I've really enjoyed. I loved Saving June because I felt like I didn't have to know stuff - I learned right alongside Harper.
ReplyDeleteHell yes to "Quirky" and "road-trip" too.
My very first Top Ten Tuesday, but a fun way to start!
ReplyDeleteStellar list! Travel was a big one for me too
ReplyDeleteWanderlust is just a great word anyways. Snarky and Quirky are definite wins.
ReplyDeleteIn reading some other TTT posts I missed out so many topics that I didn't even think of. And I thought about this for so long. Road Trip & Time Travel are 2 I missed that usually make me read a book.
ReplyDeleteThis was fun, but hard to actually think of 10 this time around. Also loved the road trip!
ReplyDeleteTime Travel/Reincarnation are really interesting topics. I wish I'd thought of them.
ReplyDeleteFun topic! I even went to the book store (yes, big sacrifice on my part!) and browsed just to see which books drew my attention. I also love time travel and road trips.
ReplyDelete@Maria (above), I totally remember that BSB Super Special.
At first with all the travel up there, I thought I did the wrong topic again, lol!
ReplyDeleteThis topic was fun! I had so much trouble choosing images to go with my 10, and finally just doubled them. :)

Great topic- made me really think!
ReplyDeleteNo matches between your and mine list whatsoever. The closest is Jana with cruise and me with beach. :)
ReplyDeleteWords or topics that instantly make me buy a book
Oh, beach! That's a good one too. I love books that take place at the beach!
DeleteI absolutely love a character who is snarky! Glad I'm not the only one!
ReplyDeleteAgree on lots of these. I love that Jana reads books about places she's been in order to get a little bit of that place back. I totally get that!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It really is a fun thing to do, and I always recommend people find a book about their favorite vacation spot if they start missing their time there. It's easy to have trip hangovers! :)
DeleteBooks set in Italy or Hawaii are almost always awesome. I love books with a road trip. Who doesn't like a quirky or snarky? And I always pick up books that are described as 'coming-of-age. Great picks! This was a fun topic!
ReplyDeleteRoad trips made it onto my list, and coming of age is a great one! One of mine is sort of music-related- something about performing arts gets my attention! I don't know of any books set on cruises, but that could be an interesting read. Great list!
ReplyDeleteRoad trip, travel, and wanderlust totally catch me too! :) This was a fun topic, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI like how you each had your input into today's post--love your word choices. very creative. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteKimberly - If you like quirky books, you need to check out Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler. The main character, Min, is the epitome of quirky.
ReplyDeleteTime travel is on my list too. And Italy should be on my list. Yum!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteOh, Italy! I haven't read a lot of books set there. My family is Italian on my Dad's side, and I'd love to take a family vacation there --- but until that happens, maybe I'll just escape with books, haha.
Road-trip books are so fun!
Time travel always grabs my attention too!
My Top Ten Tuesday
I accidentally posted two links. Number 229 is a link to last weeks list. I don't know if there is a way to remove 229, but you may want to look at it. Sorry about that!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this topic! It made me think about the books that I read and what they have in common. :)
My list includes women warriors, pickpockets, and (like Kelly) time travel. I would love to get some recommendations if you decide to visit.
ReplyDeleteMy first time participating! So excited to be a part of this :)
ReplyDeleteThis one was more difficult than I expected. I didn't even think of things like character personality-- I love snark and quirks, too. Any character that's funny or disaster prone works for me when I want a laugh!
ReplyDeleteI love that you put snarky, that's definitely a big plus for me too.
ReplyDeleteI love all of your picks, but for some reason "Cruise" made me laugh! I don't think I've ever read a book that takes place on a cruise! Now I'm curious though... Any recommendations?
ReplyDeleteDecked with Holly by Marni Bates is darling. :) Also, I really liked Girl at Sea by Maureen Johnson, but that takes place on a large yacht, so it's stretching it a bit. If you like adult fiction, Sailing to Capri by Elizabeth Adler is also good. :)
DeleteRoad trip is on my list too! This was such a fun topic! :) My TTT list: http://aliceinreaderland.com/2013/04/29/topicsword/
ReplyDeleteAlice @ Alice in Readerland
Ahhh QUIRKY! I love that one! I should have added it as an honorable mention on my list! I love quirky books, quirky characters...quirky BOYS. :) And road trips. I haven't read any road trip books, but omg I love the idea of them. Amy & Roger's is one of my reads for this summer! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat lists, ladies! :)
Sierra @ Yearning to Read
I said snarky, too!
ReplyDeleteI love looking at everyone's TTT! I hope people check out mine!
ReplyDeletehttp://reviewbooks21.blogspot.com
Although I didn't include it in my list, I do like reincarnation stories. :) Especially ones with romance in them featuring lovers that somehow will find each other over and over.
ReplyDeleteQuirky and music were two of my choices as well.
ReplyDeleteI like the snarky pick. I do like a good snarky character from time to time!
I am now participating!
ReplyDeleteI don't think anything on this list I would disagree with! They're all topics/words I totally look forward to in books. Definitely agree with Jana on Italy!
ReplyDeleteI love quirky characters too :) Didn't think of that when I made my list. Great topic! I look forward to more great top tens!
ReplyDeleteGreat topic this week. I totally agree with your time travel/reincarnation choice (which I basically also went with) and also Italy, which I didn't (well, I went with Renaissance Florence, but that's a bit more specific) but which I totally agree with
ReplyDeleteAn Italian contemporary!!!
ReplyDeleteCome check out mine at: http://www.nobentspines.blogspot.com/
I'm with Kelly... "reincarnation" and "time travel" both made my list, too!
ReplyDeleteOh, I totally forgot about time-travel! (Not crazy-ass sci-fi time travel though lol) - time travel like The Time Traveler's Wife and in The Outlander! This was a really fun list to do!
ReplyDeleteI am OBSESSED with road-trip books! I will INSTANTLY pick up a book with that theme!
ReplyDeleteTime travel and reincarnation (I forgot that one!) are definitely on my list - time travel in historic romance is a definite yes! yes! yes! :-) There definitely aren't enough book set in Italy - I would like to see more of those (and looking for recommendations!). :-)
ReplyDeleteI finally got to participate on an actual Tuesday YAY
ReplyDeleteI went really abstract with mine (and then submitted it late...) and sorted my TBRs since I avoid buying books before reading them these days. ;) It was a fun way to explore my reading preferences!
ReplyDeleteKelly, if you like time travel, check out Bee Ridgway's The River of No Return (I reviewed it here, if you're interested.) And yes to music too.
ReplyDeleteAlso yes to Luna Lovegood and quirky characters like her. :-)
I'm a little late with my TTT this week, but I finally got it posted! I love this week's prompt. :)
ReplyDeleteI should have added "time travel" to my list of things!
