Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Books Bridget Wants to Re-Read

Before we get to our regularly scheduled Top Ten Tuesday...ICYMI -- the 5th Annual Broke & Bookish Secret Santa sign-ups are open!

For future Top Ten Tuesday topics & info on how to participate, click here!

A better question might be: what books don't I want to reread?? I've read most of my books more than once, but here are the top ten that I've only read once and would love to reread:

1. The Silent Wife - A. S. A. Harrison. It's awesome. It's short, but incredibly well-written and fun to read. It's a terrible shame that Ms. Harrison passed away before The Silent Wife was published, so we won't be seeing more from her.

2. Joyland - Stephen King. A great, old-fashioned whodunit by the master of horror himself.

3. Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn. I want to reread this before I see the movie, but my mom still has it and hasn't finished it even though I lent it to her probably a year ago...Mooooommmm...

4. Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier. This is a lovely, haunting novel and I actually can't believe I haven't reread it already.

5. The Casual Vacancy - J. K. Rowling. As some of you may remember, a few of us here at TBTB did a group read of The Casual Vacancy, but most of us didn't finish. We did have a great discussion, though, and knowing everything I know about it now, I'd like to read it again with a fresh mind.

6. Room - Emma Donoghue. I remember loving the first half of the book, but I wasn't crazy about the second half. I'd like to read it again and see how I feel about it a few years later.

7. Desperation and The Regulators - Stephen King. I'm counting these as one because they're companion novels. I wish I could go back and read The Regulators first, for the first time, because the first time I read them I read Desperation first.

8. The Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis. Again, counting this as one because it's a quick series to get through as an adult. I had never read it as a kid and finally read it a few years ago when I was 22, and I LOVED it. My younger brother and sister are 5 and 6 now, so they're almost ready to get into them and I'm so excited for them!

9. The Gunslinger - Stephen King. This is one that I don't really want to read again, but feel like I should because I didn't really like it the first time. But apparently the Dark Tower series is King's magnum opus, so I feel like I should try it again.

10. Brave New World - Aldous Huxley. Another one I felt kind of meh about last time. I'd like to give it another try to see if it'll grab me the same way it's grabbed others.

What books do you all want to re-read??

  1. Right I found The Gunslinger a massive pain to read at first but it is very short and once you are into the story you will be glad you stuck with it. I want to re-read the whole thing.

  2. Thanks for this great top 10. =)

  3. Rebecca and The Chronicles of Narnia made my list as well!

  4. Gone Girl made my list too! But, can't say I agree with The Silent Wife (thought it was a way less surprising rip-off of GG) and Casual Vacancy...didn't love this one either.

  5. Shame you didn't like Brave New World, I prefer it over 1984, which it is often compared to.

  6. Lovely choices, only read The Chronicles Of Narnia myself and haven't re-read them in years, not since The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe movie came out. I really should get around to reading Joyland as I made a fuss with my husband about NEEDING it when it came out but still haven't read it yet.

  7. I almost put Gone Girl on my list but then I decided the spot would be put to better use with a book I hadn't read just last month.

  8. I just started reading Rebecca actually. My roommate hated it but I've heard such lovely things about it so I hope I like it as much as you do!

  9. I put The Dark Tower series on my TTT! I also hated The Gunslinger, but I powered through (at the hubby's urging) and went on to absolutely love the rest of the series. It's short; I definitely think you should give it another go, and then go on and read The Drawing of the Three!

  10. I'm a big fan of rereading--as a friend once put it, we eat our favorite foods regularly, why shouldn't we reread our favorite books! Rebecca, which I've already read a few times, is on my own reread list.

  11. You know, I wasn't a huge fan of THE GUNSLINGER when I read it either. I'd love to go back and reread the whole Dark Tower series. One of these days...

  12. I don't think I've read any of the books yet that you have futured. But it's a great top ten :)

  13. I'd love to reread the chronicles of Narnia too! :)

  14. I seldom re-read just because there are so many new and different books waiting to be read. But I have re-read Rebecca. Fun list today. Have a nice week. kelley—the road goes ever ever on

  15. Love this topic, great pick! I was meh about Brave New World as well. Recently saw Gone Girl and now I really want to read the book!

  16. oooh, Narnia! Hell yes!

  17. I was not a fan of the Dark Tower series. In fact they are my least favorite of all of King's books. It was so long between the first ones and the last ones though, and I feel like I need to go back and read the first ones before I can move on to the last few. But I am like you, I don't want to. :-) Great list! Narnia was a series I read over and over as a kid. You can tell by the condition of the copies on my shelf.

  18. Ahh so many books on this list I need to read! I have the entire Narnia Chronicles but have never touched them before! As well as that, my sister has the books Room and Brave New World, and I really need to get round to trying them. Thanks so much for sharing!
