Daisy Talks About Catching Fire

**WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR FIRST TWO BOOKS IN THE SERIES**

I went to see it on Monday and OMG, it was simply amazing! I love how they're translating the book to script and screenplay and it's just so good to see it done well! Because let's be honest, a lot of times it doesn't work that way.

Some of my reactions to the movie:

-I LOVE Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson! I was firmly Team Peeta from the books, and the movie only strengthens this for me. I was SO hesitant about the choices for the actors before the first movie, but man, they are mindblowingly good!
And seriously, that moment when Peeta is showing Katniss the locket and saying she needs to survive cause people need her back home and she goes 'I need you' and MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT! TEARS!

-I was pleasantly surprised by Jena Malone, loved her as Johanna! I did have a funny when I though about her playing Donald Sutherland's daughter in Pride and Prejudice and now he's sending things at her to kill her.

-The arena was just how I pictured it! It was so well done!

-CINNA! *CRIES*

-Those baboons are so gonna give me nightmares... *shudders*

-Sometimes things are actually worse when you know they're coming. Like those mutt baboons. And poor Mags... And Wiress... And Cinna...

-I love how the movies give us a little peek behind the scenes with President Snow and Plutarch Heavensbee and the whole controlling of the Games. It adds a little something extra.

So I'm guessing a lot of you have also already seen the movie, let's discuss! Did you like it or not? What are some things that stood out for you? Are you scared for the third movie? I'm really wondering how they'll translate the first half of Mockingjay into a movie!

  1. I really loved this movie! I was crying almost right from the start when they go back to Rue's district and have to say goodbye and what happens there. The movie was just so true to the book and it was very well done. I loved the depth that Lawrence added to Katniss and she is a great actress for this role, heck for any role. After watching this movie it made me want to go back and re-read the series because I haven't read the books in a few years.
I'm glad you liked the movie!

  3. I thought the way they showed how damaged she was and that she was dealing with so much pressure and stress was really well done, and sets it up well for the next movie - I know one of the big complaints with book 3 is how she acts and with the film focusing on her emotional stability, I think it will make it easier to understand things that seem irrational later on.

    1. Yes! I loved that they showed how everything that happened during the Hunger Games effected her!

  4. I agree with you on the perfection of the cast. Every scene proved that Jennifer Lawrence is the PERFECT woman to play Katniss. While I was appalled at Gale and Peeta's casting when I first found out, now I can't imagine anyone else playing those two. I've seen Catching Fire three times already haha. I can't get enough of it! Amazing movie. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    1. Haha ;) I want to watch it again as soon as possible! It's so tempting to go see it again, but I think I'll wait for the DVD to come out.
I think I was most hesitant about Josh Hutcherson, I was not so impressed with Cirque du Freak, but he's such a perfect Peeta!

  6. Cried so much D,: BUT I will say that the movie puts too much emphasis on the so-called ''love triangle'' with her kissing both boys, and I think it makes the whole story look flimsy; WHICH IT'S NOT! The fact that you could see Katniss clearly scarred and damaged made you realize how horrible the whole experience was and understand a bit more why people would rebel agaisnt such a government. I asked someone who went to see the movie too without reading and book and they did said it was a bit confusing. I believe that without that much background information it could be vague.

Anyways, I loved the movie !!

    1. I've heard people who haven't read the books say the same thing, about the first movie as well.
The amount of kissing in the beginning was a bit weird for me, but in the end it worked out and that moment with Peeta on the beach... *dies*

  7. First off I loved this movie, even more than the first. Everything was great. I almost started crying in the beginning when they went to Rue's district. I liked that they didnt hide a lot of the violence. You knew what was going on...

The social commentary on the concept of "celebrity" and reality shows is awesome. I love how they take it to an extreme and would hope that people could take that extra step to apply it to our current society. Clearly the marketing team did not though... seriously there is Capital Style Covergirl makeup. Wtf?

Also the monkeys didnt bother me as much as the jabberjays. Holy cow that would fuck me up. And to see Peeta there, pounding on the glass and Finnick just lose it completely. Urg!

Sidebar: its been a while since i have read Mockingjay. Is there really enough solid content to split it into two movies? It honestly just seems like a money grab unless i am misremembering things that happen.

    1. I KNOW! I noticed the Covergirl makeup as well! That's just wrong...
The jabberjays bothered me as well, I don't think I could have handled an hour of sitting there, hearing one of my loved ones scream!
I'm not really sure about Mockingjay being split into two movies either, especially since in the first half of it not all that much actually happened...

  10. I really really liked it! Everything that you liked was also a plus for me. Though at the cliffhanger ending, my husband looked over at me and said, 'Seriously?' He hasn't read the books! =D

    1. Hahaha :D I remember reading the books and having to wait a whole YEAR after the second book to find out what happened next and how frustrating that was, so I can totally imagine his reaction :D

  11. Basically everything you said is everything I thought as well :) I was so amazed at how many direct quotes they used in the movie! This was probably the purest adaptation of a novel I have ever seen, I was super impressed! But...so many feels...poor Peeta :( Poor Mags and Wiress and Cinna!

  12. I've seen it twice - because this is the year where I saw everything twice - and I liked it though probably not as much as you ('cause I wasn't fan of the books, probably) but I think Catching Fire was better.

And I loved Johanna! She was so funny and kick butt.

I'm with you on the monkeys, those were scary :(

  13. I absolutely loved the movie! I thought that it was by far one of the most accurate depictions from book to movie that I have ever seen - the film was really representative of the book as a whole. I even noticed that, to make up for leaving out avoxes, the servants wore these weird masks over their faces that covered their mouths. Overall, excellent movie. One thing I didn't like was that not much information was given about the other tributes, while in the book, Katniss and Peeta studied up to learn about them. Also, the training arena in the second movie looked completely different from that of the first movie.

  14. I agree with everything you've said. It was so horribly/good. I've seen it twice and I want to see it again-and again-and again- . . . .

  15. Johanna was PERFECTION! I only knew the actress from that horrible Mandy Moore movie about teen pregnancy before this haha, so it was interesting to see her in such a fierce role!
