Jen's Top Ten Books She Wished Could Have Had Sequels

Top Ten (errr Seven) Books I Wish Had Sequels:

I LOVE standalone books. But every once in awhile you come across a story, a new world or characters you want to get to know better and you need MORE insight into their world. This is my list of books I wish would have continued just a little longer.

  1. Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson: One of my favorite books! I wouldn't have minded seeing how their journey continued once Amy was back in Connecticut.
  2. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein: I hear there is a sort of sequel that's coming out soon? But as much as I would love to hear more of the story I'm sure I'd cry a river...or five.
  3. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: Lola does not count as a sequel! I'd love another book with Anna and St. Clair as the main focus.
  4. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee: It would make my heart happy if I knew what Scout was like when she grew up.
  5. This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen: Honestly, I wouldn't mind a sequel to any of Sarah Dessen's books!
  6. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith: So I just finished this book a couple days ago and I loved the ending but I need to know what happens next between Hadley and Oliver.
  7. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins: This is probably cheating but I was not okay with how Mockingjay ended.
Sadly, I can not make it to ten books this week! I realized most of the books I've recently read either have a sequel or are part of a trilogy/series...OR I was highly satisfied with the ending.

  1. Oh I almost put Mockingjay too. I am okay with the content of the ending the the freaking story telling at the end was do depressing my goodness!

  2. I feel the same way about Anna and the French Kiss. Lola doesn't count. :)

  3. I almost added Mockingjay, too. I did think the ending worked; I just wanted more.

  4. I recently borrowed Code Name Verity from the library. I've managed to have no idea at all what this book is about but I've heard so many great things. I'm excited to read it!

  5. I was *this* close to putting Anna on my list, as well, but I'm not sure I would want anything to mess with the perfection of the first book.

  6. Oh, yes. To read about an older Scout would be amazing. Unlike you though, I love how Mockingjay ended and don't believe it needs any more to be told.

    Check out my TTT.

  7. I realized the same thing -- that a lot of the books I read have sequels, or will have sequels. I was able to come up with 10, but it took a while -- and one of my original 10 turned out to have a sequel which I had heard of but not been able to find, and had then forgotten about.

  8. Statistical Probability made my list, too (which will be up in a few hours)! I wanted to know the same thing - what happened once Hadley and Oliver returned to the States?

Of course, we could ALWAYS use more Anna and St. Clair. :)

  11. Not as easy as I thought it would be to come up with 10! I also included The Statistical Probability...I could absolutely read so much more of that story! AatFK and AaRED are other fantastic picks. :-)

  12. Awesome list :D Sigh. Code Name Verity was pretty amazing, would love a sequel too :)

  14. I agree with To Kill a Mockingbird, it's on my list too. I loved the father- daughter relationship between Scout and Atticus.

  15. Great topic today - and agree not as easy and I thought it would be!I completely agree with "The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight" and on any Stephanie Perkins book - I am a huge Lola fan myself but I would read a sequel to any of her books, any day!
    Happy Tuesday Everyone!

  16. Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight made me list too! I desperately want to know what they're up to. Perhaps another 24 hours? ha

  17. I LOVED Code Name Verity! Definitely agree it needs a sequel!!! Can't believe I forgot that one on my list! And Statistical is great and could also use a sequel! Great list!!

  18. To Kill A Mockingbird is a good choice. I'm going to think about which Sarah Dessen books I think should have sequels now! Last Chance/Keeping the Moon would be a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I was debated putting Anna on. I agree that Lola really doesn't count as a sequel and Anna is probably my favorite book, but I was so satisfied when I read the last page that I don't know if I'd want to read more. I just picked up Code Name Verity from the library. I've heard great things so am excited to dive in. Great list!

  20. I'm in the same boat with realizing I read a lot of sequels! But I agree with Anna And The French Kiss, because I want more Anna and St. Clair. You can never have too much Anna and St. Clair. While I'm happy with how Mockingjay ended, The Hunger Games were so hard to put down that I didn't want the series to end! Great picks!

  21. I agree with you about To Kill a Mockingbird! It would have been very interesting to see Scout as an adult.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I almost put Sarah Dessen, too! This Lullaby would have been my top pick as well. Mockingjay was a good pick too. It's not that I necessarily wanted more but I wanted a different ending. Good list!

  23. To Kill a Mockingbird is a great on! I haven't read Code Name Verity or Anna and the French Kiss, but they're both on my list and I've heard great things about them. :D

  26. This is another one that seemed so easy, but on closer reflection, a lot of stand-alones have a perfect ending. I gave up at 5, but I tried! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Scout as an adult would be way fun to read, or even just Scout as a teenager.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Err... I had to change the theme of this one slightly cos I couldn't think of enough. It's hard when you normally read fantasy! EVERYTHING has a sequel xD

    ReplyDelete
  29. I actually liked the ending of Mockingjay, but a sequel could be nice. Great list!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I would have liked to know more about what was in Katniss's and Peeta's future as well. Nice list today. kelley—the road goes ever ever on

    ReplyDelete
  31. Felt the same way about number 6.... I respected the way the story ended. It was realistic, however I WANT to know MORE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Good list! I had a harder time coming up with 10 than I thought I would. It seems that almost everything I read these days is part of a series. Is it just me, or are there a lot more series around now than there were 20 years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mockingjay is a good choice. I wasn't particularly happy with how it ended, either. Rather than a sequel, though, I think I'd prefer a rewrite!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, we had one book in common: To Kill A Mockingbird, and I only thought of 6, went shopping, came back, and still only had 6. I either read average stand-alones or great series books :) have a good week reading!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Omg I am so happy that you didn't like the ending of Mockingjay! I feel like so many people were okay with it, but I thought it was lame... I also had a really hard time coming up with a list this week since most of the books I read are a part of a series. I adapted mine a bit to make it work though. Great list!

  36. Mockingjay isn't cheating. It's on my list, although I don't want a full blown sequel, just some information.

    Here's my TTT.

  37. I agree that most of Sarah Dessen's should have sequels. Also, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.
    Great list!!

Added my top ten to the linky. :)

  38. My first top ten tuesday woot woot! I agree with you on the Mockingjay thing.

    ReplyDelete
  39. This is my favorite Tuesday list so far.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have only read Mockingjay and Anna and the French Kiss from your list, and I'm happy with both endings lol. For Anna mostly cause I just didn't care about them much :o. And for me Mockingjay made for one powerful ending.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree about Anna and the French Kiss! Sure, Anna and Etienne were kind of mentioned in Lola and the Boy Next Door, but it would be super cool if they had another book just about them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sigh I added Mockingjay too, actually Iwuld welcome an alternative ending or a prequel to the whole series. I'm tripping on my own feelings

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anna & The French Kiss... I definitely need a sequel of it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Mockingjay... that's a good one.
Yeah I had to go back and think of books that I've read forever ago to think of ten. Nowadays it seems to be the thing to have a book be a series instead of a standalone. It was hard to think of ten!

    Great list!

  46. This was so hard for Sean and I to fid 10 books. Lately we have had the same problem about not reading singles.

I found out Melissa West`s book Gravity has a sequel.

  47. Ooo, Mockingjay. I hadn't thought of that one, cause... well I despised that ending. Good choice!

  48. I had the same issue - it was difficult coming up with ten because most I thought of actually had a sequel. I too would love a To Kill a Mockingbird sequel. Scout was awesome.

  49. I had the same problem. It was difficult coming up with ten since so many books I would have listed, actually have a sequel. Some I didn't know about until I was making this list. A sequel for To Kill a Mockingbird would be cool. I would enjoy meeting an older Scout.

  50. This list was a challenge. I guess I could have counted Fire for this list since it is really a companion in the Graceling series, not a sequel.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree...It was definitely a challenge to come up with ten! Everything has a sequel these days.

  52. I posted early but linked up late- this frustrates me, but oh well! I love this topic!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I was also dissatisfied with the ending of Mockingjay. I'm curious to see what they do with the movie version....

    ReplyDelete
  54. Looks like we had a couple that were the same, though I took a bit of a different route and did 5 that should and 5 that shouldn't have sequels.

Don't get my husband started about Mockingjay...he is extremely put out by the death of one particular character and says that it was completely unnecessary. I agree. But yes, I would like to see what the Seam looks like during peace time!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Love many of the books you mentioned in the post, although I'm not sure if I'd actually like a sequel to them... Sometimes a book is better left alone as it is!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I second you on mockingjay-not a fan of the ending!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Harper Lee announced that there's going to be a sequel to her To Kill a Mockingbird ♥____♥ I'm so excited and happy. Maybe you already know...
