A homeschooled protagonist who is supposed to be smart and perceptive but socially clueless just doesn't ring very true to me.Three Turtles and Their Pet Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14097199417023865939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5345948308406299194.post-57812136309115752562011-03-09T23:05:02.324-05:002011-03-09T23:05:02.324-05:00I guess I'm just not used to seeing the intern...I guess I'm just not used to seeing the internet pop up in books so it bothers me. Cell phones don't bother me as long as a specific brand/model isn't mentioned (imagine reading about a Sidekick or Razr phone in a book). But seeing Facebook mentioned in this book got on my nerves.Jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02672813820194476746noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5345948308406299194.post-37602589662298424582011-03-09T22:23:36.691-05:002011-03-09T22:23:36.691-05:00My teen daughters would probably love this book......My teen daughters would probably love this book...not so sure about me. It has the chance to date itself easier.

For instance, if I ever read a book that mentioned going to their Xanga or Geocities page, it would completely take me out of the story and actually send me into nostalgic land. But if someone was going to their blog I'd read it as if it were another word.

Oh, Geocities...

The book sounds pretty interesting, but for me personally, I can only take so many high school centric stories at one time becuase I too feel slightly too old for it.Juliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16831322497489282381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5345948308406299194.post-27238957097921367062011-03-09T17:15:50.454-05:002011-03-09T17:15:50.454-05:00This is a perfect response for those who are booki...This is a perfect response for those who are bookish and broke...

http://newyorkknowsbest.wordpress.com/2011/03/09/strand-books-just-got-cheap/

New York's attempt to help those of us trying to survive while eating and reading :)Sarahnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5345948308406299194.post-7672816634719353472011-03-09T13:35:53.748-05:002011-03-09T13:35:53.748-05:00I was homeschooled, so it's always interesting...I was homeschooled, so it's always interesting to see homeschooling show up in fiction, but I'm rather tired of the "homeschooled freak" stories. Most of the homeschool-to-high-school transitions I know of went a little roughly, but not nearly as roughly as, say, Jerry Spinelli's STARGIRL would have it. Still, I'll have to check this one out. Sometimes I feel like it reflects the period sometimes..I'm in agreement with Lu..mentioning the internet should be a given in the internet-era and same with cell phones. They are an integral part of this time period. However, I think I take issue with specifically mentioning things like FB and a specific KIND of phone (Iphone). I think using specific technologies like that makes the book much more likely to seem SO out of date later on down the road that kids won't be able to relate to it. I've seen so many books that were almost confusing from back in the day because of an overuse of technology and pop culture, etc.Jamiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08905075906530067471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5345948308406299194.post-48512583930744980862011-03-09T12:27:13.991-05:002011-03-09T12:27:13.991-05:00I'm not sure how I feel about specifically men...I'm not sure how I feel about specifically mentioning Facebook, but ignoring the reality of the internet is much more annoying to me than acknowledging it.Leslie @ This is the Refrainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18027804132268043518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5345948308406299194.post-66665370006115814162011-03-09T01:27:47.972-05:002011-03-09T01:27:47.972-05:00Wow. I love YA books myself, but reading the high school play-by-play books are too young for me as well. Thanks for the review!Janahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01772938036847330151noreply@blogger.com
