Top Ten Books I Hope Santa Brings

Important News:

Hello everyone! Jamie here! Before we get to today's topic....I have some NEWS that is relevant to Top Ten Tuesday. We've been doing Top Ten Tuesday since we started this blog in June 2010 and it's such a special thing for me as my little baby of an idea that grew bigger than I could have ever imagined. We have decided that, as of January 9 after our last TTT topic, that The Broke and Bookish is going to be shutting down (at least for now). I was 24 when the ladies and I got together to start this blog and now I'm a 32 year old MARRIED LADY WITH A BABY and my own blog has even taken a different direction (though still heavy on the books). And it's not just me...we've all gotten busy and life has taken us in various directions as you have probably been able to tell with our sparse posts. It's sad but I'm so grateful for doing this with these ladies for all these years. We will have a more ~formal~ goodbye post with links to social media/blogs where you can find us if you want.

BUT DON'T PANIC. Top Ten Tuesday is not going away!! I'm going to hand over the reigns to our dear TBTB contributor, Jana, and she's going to host it on her blog, That Artsy Reader Girl! She has put up a schedule so you guys can still have the topics in advance past January 9th.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you thank you thank you to the people who decided to join in way back in 2010 which helped make this little idea of mine such a fun weekly blogging event and to everyone who jumped in after. I've had fun getting to know you and you've added like A MILLION books to my TBR. I love your passion and your enthusiasm and creativity and I can't wait to see where it goes when Jana takes over. It's so hard for me to let go something that has been a huge part of the past almost 8 years of my life but it's time...

We will try to make this move as smoothly as possible but could definitely use your help in spreading the word and being gentle with us as we make this change.  --- Jamie

---

Now, on to this week's Top Ten Tuesday topic! Christmas is less than a week away, so it's probably time to declare which books we hope Santa brings this year!

Jamie's Picks

1. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng: I've heard amazing things about this book and I need it nowwww.

2. What To Say Next by Julie Buxbaum: I loved Tell Me Three Things and I NEED her latest book!

Jana's Picks

3. My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella: I love Sophie, and I've heard awesome things about this new book of hers.

4. Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh: MULAN RETELLING that I want to read!!

5. The Valiant by Lesley Livingston: Gladiators!

6. Up to This Pointe by Jennifer Longo: People keep telling me to read this book about friends figuring their lives out.

7. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier: I read Heart's Blood earlier this year and really loved it, so I want to jump into this series that everyone loves!

Lori's Picks

8. Julia’s Kitchen Wisdom by Julia Child: I just found this one today, but it sounds so cool! Child gives some base recipes and techniques and variations. It sounds like a great book for those with some kitchen experience who are looking for no recipe recipes.

9. The Vanity Fair Diaries by Tina Brown: I love reading successful women wrote their stories. This one is supposed to be gossipy and personal. I love the magazine, so I want to read some behind the scenes stuff!

10. The Joy of Cooking by Irma S. Brombauer: This is one of those seminal cookbooks that has a bit of everything and I need to add it to my collection! :)

  1. Really enjoyed Julie's follow up YA novel (though I haven't read Tell Me Three Things) yet, and I hear Sophie's books are so much fun - but again, that's another author I've yet to read. Happy reading, ladies! :)

    1. And a postscript (because apparently I cannot read): Jamie, so sorry to see you go and this blog end. BUT I totally understand. Life changes, and WE change, and it sounds like yours is all about good things. Wishing you all the best, and I look forward to continuing to chat with you on your blog. - Rissi

  5. So sorry to hear that this is the end, but it does happen to the best of us! Glad to hear that the meme will still be going strong! Though since it's Xmas, it already makes me think what will happen with the Secret Santa exchange for next year! This one has always been my favorite!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  7. Aw :) Thank you for hosting TTT for so long! So happy that it will keep going on!

Jana - Flame in the Mist is wonderful, but definitely not a Mulan retelling. A lot of people were disappointed when it wasn't because they definitely promoted it as one.

    1. It's not an actual retelling? Darn! But at least it's still wonderful! Thanks for letting me know so I don't go in with expectations. :)

  9. Thanks so much for hosting this for so long and I wish you guys the best in whatever you do. I did almost panic so I'm glad you are putting it in capable hands. I've found so many awesome blogs and met so many wonderful bloggers through this site that I would hate to lose it. Good luck and I'll miss you!

  10. Blogging is a lot of work, so I totally get that with changes in life that something has to give. Enjoy your time with your family, and I'm happy to hear that TTT will continue!

  11. NO! I'm gonna superduper miss you! But thank you for all the work you have done. I did panic for a second but then I saw you are handing it over and I started breathing again. :-) I hope you will still "play" TTT once in awhile.

  21. Thank you all so much for this blog and Top Ten Tuesday! Thanks to you all I have met and follow so many wonderful book bloggers. I have two boys - 13 (! how did that happen?!) and almost 11 now. I understand how busy motherhood is. I'm so glad Jana will continue Top Ten Tuesday on her blog and I will follow you all individually for sure. Times change, and we just change and adapt along with them. Good luck!

  22. This was a cool list. I have Flame in the Mist and can't believe I forgot Little Fires Everywhere for my own list. Happy Holidays and glad you passed on the baton to keep the meme alive.

  23. I want Little Fires Everywhere, too. I’ve seen so many good reviews of it.

  24. Awww, I'm so grateful to Top Ten Tuesday, as it encouraged me to hop around blogs when I first started blogging! I'll definitely continue participating, and thank you Jana for taking over the reigns!

Jamie, you will LOVE Little Fires Everywhere. Please, please, please let me know what you think when you read it. As a mom, I think it'll resonate with you, but as a newer mom it might resonate differently for you than it did for me. I read it a few months ago, but it's still on my mind, and I'm already thinking about re-reading it, which rarely happens to me, especially so recently after reading! So, please let me know when you read it, and what you think!!!

  25. I've only joined in the last two years, but it's been so fun to participate! Thanks for the long years of hosting, and for coming up with a sweet meme. I'll definitely be following it to Jana's page!

  26. Jaimie-I didn't even realize you had another blog--adding it to my blogroll tout de suite! I've loved TTT and need to get back into it. I'm really looking forward to Jana leading it here on TBTB.

    All the best to you!

  27. Thank you for hosting for so long. I've met a lot of bloggers through it. I will continue to follow your blog Jamie and continue with Top Ten Tuesday with Jana! :-) Much love!

  28. I didn't take part last week, but I wanted to say a huge thank you for hosting Top Ten Tuesdays for so long, and also for orgnasing The Secret Santa (which I've been privileged to take part in for two years now).
You've been amazing and so generous with your time; thank you so much for hosting this as your life has got busier and busier. Now, go off and have fun being a parent - we will all remember you, and be forever grateful for the time you've given us. (It was TBTB who got me into Boostagram!)

With all my love and huge thanks,

    Ellen
