Top Ten Books Daisy & Kimberly Read So Far This Year

Daisy's Picks

Eon by Alison Goodman: I read this for book club and it was AMAZING! I can't believe I waited this long to read it!

Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen: why yes I love me some Robin Hood retelling and Scarlet was just a whole lot of YES!

Unhinged by A.G. Howard: I LOVE this series and cannot wait for the third book to come out because holy crap that ending was cruel.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer: so you can all told-you-so me because I was REALLY hesitant to read this but everyone and their aunt was raving about it and I gave in and it was GLORIOUS.

The Emperor's Blades by Brian Staveley: there hasn't been a lot of buzz about this one, but it is seriously awesome and if you like fantasy you should put it on your TBR list!

Kimberly's Picks

Cress by Marissa Meyer: Okay, I really liked Cinder and Scarlett. But Cinder? My absolute favorite out of the three. Cress is positively adorable. The other characters remain amazing, and I loved their interactions with each other. As each character is discovered and added to the group, the more I love the story.

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas: Loved the first book. This one was just as wonderful, maybe even better? I CANNOT wait for the next book!

New York: The Novel by Edward Rutherfurd: Now, if you've read my blog or follow me on twitter, you know how much I love New York. I'm also a total history geek. I house-sat for a relative. What was I most excited about? They have the history channel. Anyway, this book tells the story of New York, from it's earliest days of Dutch settlers, all the way up to the events of 9/11. I grew to love the families I was introduced to. I learned SO MUCH from this about the history of the city. I was googling stuff every few pages.

Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein: This was a tough read, but like the first book, the writing is wonderful. Letters on a page transformed into fully realized people. The harsh landscape of their world was detailed and gritty. Their friendships were beautifully, and painfully, real. I was invested in all of them.

Maybe One Day by Melissa Kantor: Picture this. Me, 3 am, sitting my bed, book in hand, tears streaming. Okay. Maybe DON'T picture that. Ha. But this book. This was one of those that doesn't connect with everyone. No book does. But this book slammed into me. It pulled me in, broke my heart and warmed it all at once.

Tell us what books are your favorites this year!!

  1. Marissa Meyer and Sarah J Maas are definite favourites of mine too - such great series! I adore the Lunar Chronicles and all the characters who inhabit it and Celaena? She's so badass! Great lists!

  2. Crown of Midnight was DEFINITELY my favourite book of last year (Although Unspoken was a close second). I mean I was head over heels for Throne of Glass...but Crown of Midnight?! I read that and the novellas in one sitting. At like 3 in the morning. It was so worth it. I couldn't possibly imagine it being better than ToG...but it was. It's like 1000x better than one of the best books I'd read last year.

  3. I am so glad to hear that you each have a recommendation for me that I really want to read: Eon and Crown of Midnight. Both have been popular in my library but I've not read them.

  4. Crown of Midnight and Cinder were both on my list - truly epic reads!

  5. I loved Maybe One Day! And I really need to read Splintered! =)

  8. I managed to get the weeks mixed up. I did NEXT week's topic this week. So I'll do this week's topic next week. Oh well.

  9. I'm happy to see that Unhinged made the list. I met A.G. Howard at BEA last week and picked up a copy of Unhinged. I still need to read the first book in the series as well, but it looks great.

    Here is my TTT: http://jacquesbooknook.blogspot.com/2014/06/top-ten-tuesday-top-10-books-ive-read.html

  10. I loved Cinder, which is funny because it's not my typical read. A Robin Hood story would catch my eye, though. Will have to check that one out.

  11. I really want to read A.G. Howard's books! I have the first book on my Kindle, but it's one that I want on my shelf because the cover is gorgeous :) I saw the sequel to Eon in my local bookstore but I didn't buy it because I don't have the first one - heard great things though!

I loved Cinder and I am looking forward to reading Scarlet and Cress! I'd like to read Maybe One Day, too :)

  13. I was really hesitant to read CINDER, too, but I'm so glad I did. I love the series and, for me, it just keeps getting better with every installment!

  14. I LOVE the Splintered series and I can't wait to read Unhinged! I've been hearing so much about it.

Throne of Glass is another series I've been hearing a lot about. I'm really behind...

  15. I'm happy to see Eon on your list? I've been waffling about reading it for quite a while because it's so very long, but now I'll definitely bump it up the TBR list :)

  16. Yes! to Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles. Scarlet made my list; I'm still reading Cress. And I need to read Unhinged.

  20. I'm a fan of Edw Rutherford books and agree that New York was fabulous. I also Googled my way through the book and learned so much. Planning on reading Paris this year, I hope!

  21. I really need to read Unhinged. I really highly enjoyed the first book so much but then reviews came in for the second book and most seemed to say the series wasn't as good anymore.

  22. Those are some good picks! I loved Crown of Midnight as well, and I'm soon going to read Scarlet so I hope that one is as good as everyone says.

    Have a good week.
