Jamie's Picks:

1. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo: I honestly don't read a ton of fantasy (something I'm trying to change because I do enjoy it when I read it) but I LOOOVED this book! I desperately am trying to wait to read book 2 closer to when we get book 3!

2. The Girl of Fire & Thorns by Rae Carson: I read this on my honeymoon and it was one of my first fantasy books ever and I was just so absorbed into this story and loved Elisa!

Kimberly's Picks:

3. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer: I love love love this series! It's my favorite fairytale retelling. The way that the characters and the story all weave together is amazing.

4. Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay: Another retelling. And I LOVE it! Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite Disney, and then they took it and changed it and it's just as good! I love the world that the author created, and I fell in love with the characters.

5. Young Wizards Series by Diane Duane: I stumbled across this... oh, about 10 years ago? I love this series so much. They take magic and explain how and why it works with a bit of science. Plus, the author is a total astronomy geek which makes everything richer in detail. My favorite bookish quote comes from the first book. "Reading one book is like eating one potato chip."

Jana's Picks:

6. The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson: This does not come out until to July, but seriously guys. This book is amazing, and about halfway through your mind will be blown in a way you never would have thought.

7. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas: You agree, right!? AMAZING.

8. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling: I just read this for the first time last month, and OH MY. What took me so long!?!

9. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis: Again, just read this last month and it is SO MAGICAL!

Julia's Pick:
10. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss: I just love this series. It is so interesting and not slog-y (if that makes any sense). Kvothe is a wonderful main character who is so darn intriguing. I cant wait to find out more of his story in both the present and the past. It's a book I didn't think I would like, but ended up really enjoying.

  1. Daughter of Smoke and Bone would be on my best of fantasy list. I also love the Lunar Chronicles, and I just bought The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe a couple of days ago.

  2. Yes, yes, yes to Of Beast and Beauty, Harry Potter, and Throne of Glass! The Girl of Fire and Thorns is also on my TBR list.

  3. Lunar Chronicles forever! Interestingly enough, I included it on my sci-fi list!

  4. I really need to read more fantasy! For adult fantasy fans (especially Canadians), The Enchantment Emporium by Tanya Huff is a really good read. On the opposite end, I also love the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan.

  5. I, too, need to read more fantasy, though The Girl of Fire & Thorns is definitely one of my favorites of all time! Great list!

  6. I adore Harry Potter, The Lunar Chronicles and Throne of Glass. Highly recommend all of them.

    Great list! :)

  7. Such good choices! I did fantasy too and while we only have one overlap, I really love so many of these books!

  8. I really need to read some more fantasy books! I want to read so many on your list!

  9. Jana you picked some of my absolute favourites! The ToG series was my most mindblowingly fangirling amazing find of last year for sure. And I can't believe you just discovered Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia! That's my childhood right there haha

  10. For me it's definitely His Dark Materials. Besides Harry Potter it's my favourite fantasy series of all time, and it crosses genres into sci-fi as well, with some awesome religious mythology chucked in. Not for everyone, but I adore it.

  11. I've read most of these but Lunar Chronicles is my favorite and I have no idea how I could have possibly forgotten to add it to my list! I really want to read The Name Of The Wind but haven't gotten to it yet!
    Great picks!

  12. Nice books. I also choose fantasy but non of those books you choose are in my top ten :D

  13. A first time HP reader! This is a beautiful thing, I wish I could read HP for the first time again.♥

I love these picks, especially Shadow and Bone, and the Lunar Chronicles. Now I want to reread all the things but I caaaan't :(

  14. Love Harry Potter and Lunar Chronicles thus far (haven't read Cress yet). I remember giving the Young Wizards series a go, but I didn't get very far. I've been curious about the Throne of Glass and The Grisha series, so glad to see them both on your lists. Never heard of Patrick Rothfuss's series but its synopsis looks very good indeed.

    Great picks!

  15. I've got Rae Carson and Patrick Rothfuss too, I love the HP books, but I've not listed it in my top ten :(

  16. There are way too many great fantasy books out there to choose from! Hmm...HP, forever and always (so cool that you're reading them for the first time Jana!). I also love The Chronicles of Narnia series and anything by Cinda Williams Chima - she's a phenomenal YA fantasy writer. Great list!

  17. Yes to Shadow & Bone, The Lunar Chronicles, Throne of Glass and Harry Potter! I picked fantasy too but I didn't include HP because I had about 5 of them on my list because I couldn't choose between them. I really NEED to read The Girl of Fire & Thorns soon. Everyone is raving about that series and I can't wait to start it!
    Great list :D

  18. I've been wanting to read a Pearson fantasy and had been keeping my eye on The Kiss of Deception--so glad to see it rates!

  19. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is one of my all-time favorite books EVER. Great pick. I LOVE fantasy. These are all excellent choices, really. (:

  20. Nice list of fantasy novels! Some of my favorites include Garth Nix's Abhorsen series, anything by Robin McKinley, and Patricia McKillip's lyrical standalones.

  21. Ooooh, I picked fantasy, too! And of course I included Harry Potter & the Chronicles of Narina. :) Great list, still have to check most of those out, though...

  26. I HAVE to read THE NAME OF THE WIND. I've been dying to for ages now and still haven't gotten around to it. Same with THE MAGICIANS by Grossman.

  27. The Lunar Chronicles would definitely make a top ten Fantasy list of mine, too. Other than that... probably Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books, and Susan Dexter's Wind Witch.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I loved the Young Wizard series by Diane Duane! Thanks for the list! Many are on my TBR and I just added Of Beast and Beauty.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I haven't tried The Lunar Chronicles but I've seen it quite a bit so I do plan to check it out. Harry Potter is always a favorite but I couldn't fit it on my list.

  30. Two books I would love to read again for the first time just to experience that magic as it was for me that initial reading are The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I envy you Jana. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Shadow and Bone, and The Lunar Chronicles are on my to-be-read list, so it's good to see that they're as good as I'm hoping they'll be. Beauty and Beast was also my favourite Disney movie, so I'll be sure to add Of Beast and Beauty to my list, too.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Those are some great picks! Harry Potter, of course, is a favorite of mine. I haven't read the Shadow & Bone or the Lunar Chronicles yet, but I own them :) I'm kinda just wanting for those last books to come out before I plow through them.
