Top Ten Books that Will Make You Swoon

Daisy's Picks

Oh man, this is so hard! Basically: I love to read swoony books, so I have TONS that could have been on this list.

Crown of Embers by Rae Carson: actually, this whole series was a big swoonfest for me, aside from being an amazing epic fantasy. YOU GUYS, Crown of Embers is where I fell in love with Hector! You should all meet him!!! (my review)

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn: I'm betting it will make our TB&TB Julia happy that I listed this one, cause she recommended it to me so many times and she was SO right! It's swoonworthy and funny and just everything I want in a historical romance! (my review)

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean: I was drawn in by the witty title and stayed for the beyond awesome romance that Sarah MacLean brings EVERY TIME! I count on her to bring the swoon and she does. (my review)

Captured by a Rogue Lord by Katharine Ashe: he's a PIRATE! I LOVE PIRATES! So much tension in this book and romance-y goodness and just SO MUCH LOVE! (my review)

Julia's Picks

Just like Daisy, I read books that by definition should make me swoon every time, so narrowing this down is going to be rough! But I will do my best!

Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare: Oh man did this one come out of no where and surprise me! It was a romance novel book club pick that I just happened to fall into. It's the third in a series and I hate reading out of order, but it didn't matter so much with this one. And I adored it! (review)

Moonglow by Kristen Callihan: This is the second in the much adored by me Darkest London series. Steampunk meets paranormal in this one and everything just melds together to give me a proper case of the feels. (review)

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner: This book is outstanding. I loved every second of it. Being a survivalist sort of dystopian, it's surprising that it makes my swoon-worthy list, but it does. It is a great romance in the midst of hard times. Oh, my emotions were wrecked by this book both the good and bad ones. (review)

Scandelous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt: I love the Maiden Lane series by Ms. Hoyt. It's Georgian and mostly set in the shadier, gin ravished part of London and not the upper crust. This book I picked because I loved the romance between our puritanical Silence and her pirate king Mickey. I have a thing for pirates too :)(review)

When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James: Oh, this book. A retelling of Beauty and the Beast where the beast kinds sorta resembles Dr. House. Now that I have read all of the fairy tale retellings, I can firmly say this one was my favorite. Such a great story! (review)

What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long: This book is by far in my opinion my favorite Julie Anne Long book. The couple just sizzles and make you root for them the entire book. Then the end comes and *swoon* (review)

Alright, everyone! Tell us about all your swoon worthy books. I fully expect my TBR pile to grow with new books from all genres!

  1. I've not read any of these but I have to admit I'm fascinated by Daisy's pick - Captured by a Rogue Lord. There's just something about Pirates. Not sure if it's a throwback to my teen days falling in love with Dread Pirate Roberts from The Princess Bride or something else but my favourite romance novels are ones with Pirates.... with the exception of Pirate by Fabio. Great list!

  2. This wasn't the easiest TTT but it also wasn't the hardest! I don't read a lot of 'true' romance so I picked a lot of stories that had romantic elements that made for some swoonworthy stories, moments, or heroes.

  3. Okay, I have a question about When Beauty Tamed the Beast. Is this more fairy tale retelling, or more romance novel? And actually, I'm not really clear from the GoodReads summary... is this YA? Thanks! Love Beauty and the Beast so I'm cautiously intrigued lol.

    1. It's a historical romance novel. Not YA, not explicit sexytimes but there are sexytimes. It's more of a romance novel with elements from Beauty and the Beast.

One of my favorite Beauty and the Beast retellings that is more YA is Robin McKinley's Beauty.

  7. Heh. I don't read romances, but the one YA book apiece that you all named are on my list as well! High-five!

  8. Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake and The Viscount Who Loved Me (and basically mod of the Bridgerton novels) made me swoon too! (But this post only makes me want to read ALL the books, since I haven't read so many of them.)

  9. Apart from Julia Quinn, I don't recognize any of the authors on the list so I'm very intrigued to try these books out. "When Beauty Tamed the Beast" sounds particularly interesting, I'm definitely putting it on my TBR!

  10. Wow!! I haven't read any of these books. It looks like I have a lot of swoon worthy reading ahead of me. I will have to check these out!! Thanks for sharing :)

  12. Where is Outlander on these lists? James Fraser is literally the most swoon worthy literary figure of all time.

    1. Sorry! Outlander is still on my TBR list... I plan to read it soon though!

    2. Don't hate me, but I am not a fan of Outlander. It started off swoony enough and I liked the characters for the most part. I just didnt think the story flowed well and took me out of the world enough to question what was going on.

That said, I am really looking forward to watching Outlander on Stars. I think a lot of my problems with it will be resolved by changing the medium. :)

  13. Good picks! I've heard Tessa Dare novels are pretty good, I'll have to check them out.

  14. I'm a huge fan of Julia Quinn. Her books just always make me happy and she's so FUNNY. Of the Bridgeton's, Anthony really is my favourite as well.

  15. Man, I did horribly this time around. I only found five books. Obviously, I am not a very swoony person. I'll have to look into some of these though. The Beauty and the Beast retelling looks extremely interesting!

  16. Great picks! I am so in love with this topic and had a great time choosing the books to put on the list :) most of the books on your list I haven't heard of yet but def adding them to my tbr now! Thanks for sharing :)

  20. I LOVE so many of the books on your list! What I Did for a Duke is one of the most swoon-tastic books EVER. Period. The Viscount Who Loved Me, When Beauty Tamed the Beast, and Any Duchess Will do are pretty far up there, too! I haven't read that Elizabeth Hoyt book yet, but I really like her books. I should get on that!

    1. If you do read the Maiden Lane series, start from book one Wicked Intensions. It makes what happens in later books make a lot more sense. :)

  21. Julia Quinn, Eloisa James - swoon worthy novels definitely.. as well as Tessa Dare/Hoyt..

  22. I haven't read any of these, so clearly I have to get on that! Thanks for sharing.

  23. Julia Quinn is one of my all-time favorite romance authors. Eloisa James - I have a lot of her books on my TBR pile. Nine Rules to Break is on the TBR list for sure!

  24. Question--are we supposed to be posting our lists on Tuesday as well? Or do we have the whole week to work on the selected subject? It seems weird to be posting a Top Ten Tuesday list on Wednesday...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can do whichever you would like, I guess. Most people post a list on Tuesday of all ten books that fit the theme for that week (or at least as many as they can think of that fit the theme). Then they come and post it here in the linky. :)

  25. Oooh, I like the sound of The Rules to Break...I'm participating in Top 10 Tuesday for the first time tomorrow and I can't wait! I always love reading people's Top 10s! :-)
