Top Ten Books We'd Love To See As A Movie Or TV Show

For a list of past and future Top Ten Tuesday topics and to find out more about Top Ten Tuesday, click here!

Jana's pick: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
I love Paris, and I love this book so much! Think of the pretty shots the filmmakers could get of the area! And the romance is so amazing, I know I'd swoon a million times over St. Clair and Anna.

Kelly's pick: Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
This book had such an interesting plot line, as well as lots of flashbacks and would be a great mystery movie of sorts. A movie might also help me keep all of the characters straight, which I had trouble with while reading. It's such a great story of the power of family and friends. Also: Australian accents!

Jen's pick: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith
I think this book would translate wonderfully into a movie. It takes place over twenty-four hours so too much wouldn't be left out. I think it would be a cute chick-flick which I kind of love.

Lori's pick:
Fin & Lady by by Cathleen Schine.  It would make an interesting movie because the character of Lady is so interesting to watch and it's fun to see Fin develop from a boy into her protector.  Think a cross between Auntie Mame and Almost Famous.

Jamie's pick: The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: I pretty much think this would be a kickass movie and very atmospheric. Let's make this happen please!

Tahleen's pick: Keeping with the YA theme, 52 Reasons to Hate My Father by Jessica Brody. Because this trailer. I'm honestly still waiting for this to happen. (Also, in case anyone is interested, as I was looking for this trailer I stumbled upon a book trailer for Brody's The Karma Club, and one Deepak Chopra made a special guest appearance. What???)

Julia's pick: The His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman, except one that doesn't suck. I can't even claim that The Golden Compass sucks because I can't bring myself to watch it, but I have heard the tales and they horrify me. That and apparently they filmed the ending the correct way but it was "too much" for audiences. So being greedy I want it done right. Paula agrees.

Julia's pick: The Desperate Duchess series by Eloisa James
Moving away from YA for a second, I have to include this series. It's like Desperate Housewives of the Georgian era. I think it would make for a great TV miniseries as it has storylines that carry over between each book though with couples that are the main focus of each book. Man I need to reread that...

Bridget's Pick: 11/22/63 by Stephen King--I think this would work really well as a movie if they got all the late-50s/early-60s details right, as well as the casting. I could see it being a big blockbuster if it was done right, or maybe a miniseries like The Stand or The Shining.

Jana's pick: Renegade by J.A. Souders
The scenery in this book is gorgeous. A city under the sea? YES. And the people are not mermaids! They are actual humans. And then a surface dweller infiltrates and falls in love with one of them and tries to save her. The crazy action and suspense, combined with the fun they could have with the movie set would make this an amazing movie!

Do you agree with any of our picks? Which books would YOU like to see as a movie or tv show?

  3. They are turning Jellicoe Road into a movie. I've seen Melina Marchetta talking about it. It's got a director and is going to be 120minutes rather than the usual 90 for aussie films.

  4. Jellicoe Road IS becoming a film. So you've got your wish ;)

  33. Had a couple of these on my list, too. How is it possible no one has made an ANNA AND THR FRENCH KISS movie yet?? http://dcmorin.blogspot.com/2013/09/top-ten-tuesday-for-september-10-2013.html

    ReplyDelete
  34. Any book by Stephanie Perkins would be fantastic on screen. Jellico road would be interesting too.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would love to see Anna and the French Kiss made into a movie! It has the perfect criteria: Paris, boarding school, and Etienne St. Clair!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Interesting picks! I'd love to see some of the really good historical romances (that aren't by Austen or Bronte) made into movies. (Not that there's anything wrong with Austen and Bronte, but those books have already been made into films, some of them terrific.)

    ReplyDelete
  37. My first Top Ten Tuesday...what a fun topic. I also chose an Eloisa James novel, but not from the Desperate Duchesses series. Her stories are so lush and detailed. I'm putting The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight on my to-read list!

    1. I took a guess at which James novel it would be. Let's go see if I am right :)

  38. My first Top Ten Tuesday and I agree with Julia about His Dark Materials Trilogy. The Golden Compass didn't suck, but it fell flat. Can you imagine a boring movie based on this adventure-packed novel? Needless to say, I was beyond disappointed!

    1. I heard it was horrible. And then later I heard they filmed the ending the right way but the studios were all like "Nope" and cut it up, making it suck. :( If there were ever a directors cut I would probably watch it.

  39. I didn't even think of Stephanie Perkins, but I would LOVE movie adaptions of Anna and the French Kiss, and Lola and the Boy Next Door!

    ReplyDelete
  40. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight would be great as a film, and Renegade sounds really interesting!

    ReplyDelete
  41. There are some good options here. I bet Stephen King's book eventually becomes a movie or mini-series, especially since Under the Dome is doing so well.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I just found out Outlander is being made into a stars miniseries. I'm so pumped for that!

    1. I have mixed feelings to be honest. I read the first book and was pretty meh if not less then meh about it. Maybe I'll give the miniseries a chance though...

  43. YAY! i love this this topic! I have The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight on my list as well... I loved reading through your choices. I still need to read Jellicoe Road. Oh gosh, I really need to. AND Anna and the French Kiss. I should get on these... ;)

    XOXO

  44. I haven't actually read any of those books! I plan on reading 11/22/63, and I've tried to read His Dark Materials so many times - I can never get into it =(

    ReplyDelete
  45. I really want to read Anna and the French Kiss and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight! I'm sure they'd make great movies!

  46. I ALMOST included Anna and the French Kiss on my list. I'll include it as an honorable mention ;)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree, His Dark Materials needs to be done correctly and it will be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This is a great topic and so I hope you don't mind that I took part. I haven't read all the choices above so probably not really qualified to answer but definitely to the Pullman novels (which I realise the first has already been done - but was frankly disappointing!)
    Lynn :D

  49. Anna and the French Kiss was definitely on my list as well! But who could possibly play Etienne?!?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I almost included Anna and the French Kiss / Lola and the Boy Next Door. A Great and Terrible Beauty is my #1 though.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I, too, choose to ignore The Golden Compass. I can't bring myself to watch it, it just sounds so bad!

  52. I've read most of these and I completely agree they should be movies or shows! They all sound awesome! :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Great choices, I had Stephanie Perkins' novels on my list as well. I picture a show on the CW or ABC family for some reason.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I've noticed that a lot of people want Anna and the French Kiss to be a movie. Hu Also 52 Reasons To Hate My Father should be a movie and I totally get what you mean about the trailer.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I LOVE this topic! I'm not a regular participate in Top 10 Tuesday, but I had to join in this week. I haven't had the fortune to read any of the books on your list though besides His Dark Materials. It's a good thing you haven't seen the movie.

  56. My first ever top ten tuesday :) http://wp.me/p3Mvfr-8g

  57. The Scorpio Races are on my TTT this week as well. I'd really like to see it done as a horror movie, but with a lot of the subtlety and atmosphere I loved in the book. I hadn't thought of Jellicoe Road, but I think that book has a lot of potential for a complex and thoughtful movie.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I would really love to see Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane made into a movie or miniseries. I know it probably wouldn't translate very well to film.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Great topic. I too was disappointed by the treatment of His Dark Materials. It didn't make my final list, though.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jellicoe Road would be a great movie. I loved that book!

    ReplyDelete
  61. This is my first time participating in Top Ten Tuesday, but I've loved reading the responses that I come across on the blogs I follow.

The book/series I've always waned to see as a well-done movie series is Garth Nix's The Abhorsen Trilogy.

I talked about a few others in my post: http://readrunstudy.wordpress.com/2013/09/10/top-ten-books-i-would-love-to-see-as-a-movietv-show/

    ReplyDelete
  62. Please, oh please let there be a better His Dark Materials adaptation! That film was so disappointing. I 100% agree with you! The rest of your books are new to me :) Can't wait to read them and dream up the worlds that you think belong on screen!

Thanks for sharing a great list!
