Lori's Top Ten Characters I Would Crush On If I Were Also A Fictional Character

For future topics/more info click here

One of my favorite things about the book community is discovering that my odd book-related behavior actually isn't that odd....like having the most hopeless crushes on book characters.  :)

In no particular order...

1.  Oliver Wood from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.  This might have more to do with him being played by a really foxy actor in the movie, but I rather like him.  I wish his character had been more fleshed out.

2.  Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind.  I have a total girl crush on her.  I think that she's just captivating.

3.  Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird.  His stoicism and honor are totally sexy.

4.  Buddy Threadgoode from Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.  Again, this might be because the actor who played him is totally foxy (Chris O'Donnell) and again, his character was not very fleshed out.

5.  Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind.  I don't even need to explain this.

6.  Chennault from The Rum Diary.  Another girl crush.  She's so free and cool.

7.  Jack Whitman from Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.  Not only was the actor who played him in the film attractive, he sounds totally hot from the book's description too.  He's tender and he plays music and he dances....

8.  Stu Redman from The Stand.  I read the book way before I saw the movie.  I thought he sounded fantastic from the novel because he's definitely a man's man and is really brave.  Then I saw the movie with Gary Sinise and OMG!

9.  Robert Jordan from For Whom the Bell Tolls.  I think his bravery and determination to do the right thing is hot.  But I think it might be safer to say I have a thing for Hemingway...

10.  Jesse Tuck from Tuck Everlasting.  I think he has some really romantic lines.  And he seems to care for and accept Winnie as she is.

Hmmm...a lot of these I have a crush on because a film adaptation pushed me over the edge.  The film helped give me a visual for a character I already liked.  I'm OK with that.

What about you?

  4. Hi, yes, Jesse Tuck is totally on my list too! I freaking loved him, even though he was SO STUPID in thinking that Winnie would be able to wait like decades and centuries even for him to come back. Crazy. But loved him so much.

  5. You know I wanted to include Oliver Wood...but I wasn't sure if that would be cheating. Then again I included John Thornton from North and South since Richard Armitage was flawless as that character, so maybe I should have.

    Great list Lori!

  6. JESSE! OOH I LOVE HIM! The guy who played him in the movie was amazing, too.

I love your list! Classics and contemporary, nice mix. :)

  16. I had/have a MAJOR crush on Oliver Wood (Sean Biggerstaff) from the movies. When he showed up on screen, I was like, Oh man, Oliver Wood is HOT? It's like when I watched Lord of the Rings and Legolas (Orlando Bloom) was so beautiful that I immediately read the books and re-read Legolas scenes, imagining Orlando Bloom as Legolas. Hahaha.

  26. I hear you about Oliver Wood. I put Neville because I thought in the last movies he was quite good looking too. :P

    ReplyDelete
  27. Haha! Stu from THE STAND was the very first character that came to my mind when I saw the topic today :) Also, I love Oliver Wood (in the movie) as well.

  30. Wow, Oliver Wood is a great but surprising choice - immediately catches the eye :) I was also contemplating a girl crush on my list (Asha from Hannah Harrington's Speechless), but ended up sticking with the guys. Love these choices.

Although Oliver Wood is indeed an interesting choice, I wouldn't mind him at all
    Here is my list

  34. I think it's safe to say I only really watch the Gone With the Wind movie because of Rhett Butler. Clark Gable as Rhett Butler = perfection.

  35. My last book crush was Graeme Montomery from Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks. The way he was so sweet and protective of Emeline and communicated with her was so romantic. Plus I've always had a thing for Sottish men (Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle anyone?:))

  36. Great list!! Here's mine:

  37. Why Haven't I heard of many of these! I like Atticus Finch more as a father figure though, there's just something stopping me from thinking about him in a sexy way. Oh and Oliver Wood, he is rather dashing in the movie! Happy Reading!

    My Top Ten!

  38. I was absolutely IN LOVE with Oliver Wood in the first 2 Harry Potter movies! I was so bummed that he didn't get more screen time.

  45. Phew, I really went to town on that one, I've been writing for hours in a total state of over-excitement. I'm actually quite pleased with myself; I thought I was going to be wall-to-wall physically attractive characters, but I actually proved myself less shallow than I thought.
By the way, I agree with your original post - attractive actors in film adaptations can definitely tip the balance.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oliver Wood??? I totally forgot about him! I am seriously so embarrassed right now. He was the BEST. Especially after I watched the movie. Immediately afterwards, I went to reread all his scenes. Totally wish he was more prominent in the series too! Love your list! :)
