Julia's Top Ten Books For People Who Liked X Author

Top Ten Books For People Who Liked X Author

Hey everyone, this is Julia. Today's Top Ten Tuesday is to help those of you who need some recommendations based on some popular authors. So hopefully within the next few lines you will find something that you find interesting :)

If you like George R.R. Martin and his epic fantasy, then try The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss or of course The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

If you like J.K. Rowling and her younger fantasy, then try The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman or Cinder by Marissa Meyer

If you like Susanne Collins and her dystopian future, then try The Giver by Lois Lowry or The Way We Fall by Megan Crewe or Across the Universe by Beth Revis.

If you like E.L. James and her erotic romance, then try Bared to You by Silvia Day

If you like Julia Quinn and historical romance, then try A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean or Scandal of the Year by Laura Lee Guhrke

So, not a lot of descriptions as to why today, as it was really hard for me to do this. But all of the links go to the Goodreads pages where you can read about more if you are interested. I am really looking forward to seeing where you all today today's topic. So let the linkie funtimes begin!

  1. Oh I took a different avenue. I posted books/authors to try if you enjoyed Author X. My Author X was Julia Quinn and the book you recommend, A Rogue By Any Other Name is the first book I put on there. LOL Great mind think alike.

  2. I did the same as Amanda, all one author...

I need to give Bared to You a try! I'd heard a lot of people say it was one that you *must* read if you liked Fifty...

    1. Yeah, I could barely think of them with many authors! Guess I took the easy way out.

I've not read Fifty or Bared to You actually (full confession time). I just have heard it rec'd so much in regards to Fifty that I wanted to pass it on, since Fifty is so popular now.

  3. oooh I'm so curious about Cinder now that you connect it with Potter fans

    1. I hope it doesn't disappoint. I linked it mostly because of the fantasy aspect. I wish there was more world building, but it was still a cool story!

  4. Great list! Like Amanda, I also took the avenue of posting books to check out if you enjoyed a particular author (in my case, I chose Carlos Ruiz Zafon as a starting point).

  5. I must read Across the Universe! I've heard so many good things about it! :)

    1. I absolutely LOVED Across the Universe, and I also enjoyed the sequel A Thousand Splendid Suns. It's an interesting book if you like scifi and dystopian books.

  6. I wonder if Bared to You will become as popular as Fifty Shades, because a market seems to have been created, and soon everyone will finish the trilogy...

    1. Yeah I think Bared To You was originally published as a self-pubbed book, but after Fifty's success, is going to have a print run with a traditional publisher. I read this somewhere at some point.

I have never read either, but I heard that Bared to You is even better than Fifty.

  7. Like some of the others I did this completely different where I stuck with one "if you like X" author and did ten books that go with that one author.

Ah! Why didn't we think out of the box like you and do ten pairings lol. So much easier!! lmao

Good list, though, and I will definitely be checking out some of these =D

    1. I don't know if it is thinking out of the box, just thinking "How can I make a list of 10?" haha

  8. I did a list for people who liked Jodi Picoult. I've been meaning to read Cinder and The Giver!

    1. I have not read much Jodi Picoult. I'll have to check out your list. The Giver is like a classic dystopian, a precursor to modern YA. It's a great book.

      Cinder is, too :)

  9. I love The Giver! SO good! The Golden Compass series was a great too. I actually did a whole list for those who like Suzanne Collins. Here's my Top 10 at Libby Blog. Happy reading!

    1. I could think of a lot of books that were like Suzanne Collins, but I hadn't read too many of them, so I did a mix. I loved The Hunger Games though so I will totally check out your list!

  10. Wow, that was a totally different take on the topic than the one I had in my head. I may have been able to actually attempt it if I'd done it this way! But then again, probably not, because my brain isn't working right this week.

Anyway, I currently have Cinder on its way and Across the Universe on my shelf, waiting to be read, which is pretty exciting since I loved Harry Potter and Hunger Games. And I'm actually the reverse of your first one - I've read Name of the Wind, but haven't started Game of Thrones yet, although I have that one as well. Great list!

Here's mine, although as a warning, I totally and completely cheated.

    1. I took the easy way with this. I couldn't have done one author! Cheating is okay, haha!

I am actually reading Game of Thrones right now... well I am on Clash of Kings, the second one. I am trying so hard to avoid spoilers for the series and the HBO show!

  11. Your so right about J.K. Rowling and His Dark Materials, I absolutely loved both! I shall have to read Cinder, because I haven't yet and if you compare them to those other great titles, it must be great!
I did a whole list about people who like Ruth Warburton, you can find it here.

    Happy reading :)

    1. I had my issues with Cinder's world building, but I really enjoyed the twist on Cinderella anyway. I hope you like it!

  12. I had to do the same as I couldn't come up with ten books for one author, and I still managed to repeat one!
Really tempted to check out The Name of the Wind-I've heard so many good things about it!

    1. I really liked The Name of the Wind, and I am not really a fantasy reader. It's a large book though so if you are carrying around a lot (like I did), the eBook is a great investment :)

  13. I published the wrong post today. I am sorry, but my link is not a valid one.

  14. I loved the movie The Golden Compass, probably am the only one (lol), but I haven´t read the books. I really want too and probably am going to read when I see them at the library. Great list.

    1. Oh, you must read The Golden Compass! I've never seen the movie, but the book is so much fun! Let me know what you think after you read it :)

  15. I did kind of the same thing as you, where I did a few different authors! Glad to know I wasn't the only one! :) Love the picks for Suzanne Collins' books!

  17. I never read a few of the books you recommended, great list! I tried a few other authors, but I had a tough time, so I ended up doing Meg Cabot.

    1. I was the opposite. I couldn't figure out some for just one author! I dont think I have read Meg Cabot so I'll have to check your list out!

  18. I like the way you did this! And I love that you put Cinder as a book to try if you like J.K. Rowling! Harry Potter is my all time favorite series and Cinder was my favorite read so far this year! Great list!

    1. Good! I am glad that you agree! I was worried, because Cinder is a bit different, but overall I think the magical feel is the same.

    2. The *entire* time I was making my list I kept thinking to myself, "Harry Potter has to be in here somewhere... and Cinder, too! What other reads do these books connect to that I love??" For some reason I NEVER put them together! *face palm*

Thanks for helping me see what was right before me all along!

  19. I soooo need to read the Giver. And, I just noticed the comment above...Cinder too.

    1. The Giver is awesome. It's like the precursor to all recent dystopian YA. It's a quick read.

  21. I actually did this type of post a few weeks ago for female authors - my top pick is if you like Jane Austen, try Barbara Pym! She's so great and I feel like very few people my age have heard of her. Great suggestions! Looking forward to trying a few new authors

  22. I like the way you did your post. I picked an author and listed 10 of my favorite books that she had written. http://ladygaladrielkj.blogspot.com/2012/07/tuesday-top-ten-and-teaser-eleanor.html

  23. I couldn't think of enough for one author either, so I did a format similar to this! I've been hearing a lot about Across the Universe. I'll have to check it out.

  25. I did mine a little differently and wrote up a "best of Ray Bradbury" list. I figure many people have read just one thing, maybe one short story or F451, and want to know what to read next.

  26. Totally agree with the HP/Cinder connection. I LOVED Cinder and am anxiously awaiting the release of the next in the series!

  29. This was a toughie! I did a list for people who like David Sedaris. Hope you enjoy!

  30. Well, since Twilight is the book that dragged me back into reading heavily and starting my blog, I chose to make a list for people who liked Stephenie Meyer. It actually ended up being really easy! And fun! Thanks for this great meme!

  31. First time doing this. It was fun. It took a while to get some though. haha

    ReplyDelete
  32. I too took the easier route and did a similar format with a variety of authors and related books. It worked. I loved your Rowling and Golden Compass connection. It works!
